Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Capture Signature on iPad?

    Has anyone managed to capture a signature into a SQL backend from an iPad?

    I have seen this but don't understand how to use with Alpha.

    All help gratefully received.

      Have you looked into this JQuery plugin?
      http://thomasjbradley.ca/lab/signature-pad/
      I have not looked into A5 with JSON although i believe you can call your own Javascript libraries in A5.

          Hi Fred,

          Many thanks for these links.

          Do you know how to implement any of these systems into a web app with MySql backend?

          Omar, I suggest you use a dialog to capture the signature. I would be pleased to see how you get it to work, good luck.

              Re: Capture Signature on iPad?

              I have JSignature working on a grid; I'm capturing signatures, saving the data in a table temporarily to create a jpeg image to add the signature to a report. I create a pdf out of the report and I'm also "Signing" the document with a certificate to certify the document has not been changed. I then delete the signature from the table and store the signed pdf in a table for future reference. I've created an app for dynamic questionnaires where the user signs it at the last question. It works on an Ipad and android devices.

                That is exactly what I'm looking to do.

                Please can you explain exactly how you did this, perhaps with a Jing.

                  Re: Capture Signature on iPad?

                  I use MySQL for the data. I have a table that have the question and answer ID's inserted into it from a lookup. User goes through the questions and at the end will be presented with some buttons. On the sign button, I place the code to acquire the signature. On the save button, I save the svg to the same table. I then generate a report based upon the users answers with the signature. The report has to have a calculated jpg for the signature. What I have not been able to do is automatically display the signature line when the user gets to the last page. There is also a saving timing issue where I want the user to save and close but A5 is complaining about not saving the record. I'm trying setTimeout(function(){closeme()},3000); but A5 complains that the function is not recognized.report.JPGsignnsave.JPGsave.JPGSign.JPGjslink.JPG

                    after testing on iPad, Jsignature is a lot better than this one http://mcc.id.au/2010/signature.html = fast and simple using SVG.

                    How to use it with Alpha with sample , since I have studied a lot but fail !

                      In my post of images.....The sign jpg is the code that can go in a button. The save jpg can go in a save button less the ajax call back. I had to save the png version of the data and convert to jpg to have the signature included in the report. The report has a calculated filed for the jpg of the signature.

                        Sign Button

                        Code:
                        jQuery(document).ready(function() {
                        jQuery('#signature').jSignature(); // inits the jSignature widget.

                        jQuery('#signature').jSignature("clear"); // clears the canvas and rerenders the decor on it.

                        // Getting signature as SVG and rendering the SVG within the browser.
                        // (!!! inline SVG rendering from IMG element does not work in all browsers !!!)
                        // this export plugin returns an array of [mimetype, base64-encoded string of SVG of the signature strokes]

                        var datapair = jQuery('#signature').jSignature("getData", "svgbase64");
                        var i = new Image();
                        i.src = "data:" + datapair[0] + "," + datapair[1];
                        jQuery(i).appendTo(jQuery('#someelement')); // append the image (SVG) to DOM.

                        // Getting signature as "base30" data pair
                        // array of [mimetype, string of jSIgnature"s custom Base30-compressed format]

                        datapair = jQuery('#signature').jSignature("getData","base30");

                        // reimporting the data into jSignature.
                        // import plugins understand data-url-formatted strings like "data:mime;encoding,data"

                        jQuery('#signature').jSignature("setData", "data:" + datapair.join(","));
                        });
                        Save Button

                        Code:
                        var datapair = jQuery('#signature').jSignature("getData","image");
                        var mysigdata = datapair[1];
                        _myQAGlobals.chkgrid = {grid.Object}.isDirty();

                        if (_myQAGlobals.signpushed=true)
                        {

                        {grid.Object}.setValue('G','SIGBIN','{Grid.RowNumber}',mysigdata);
                        {grid.Object}.submitGridPart();
                        }
                        I had to save the image in the grid and use an additional ajax call back to convert to jpeg, render the report and delete the image from the table as I no longer need it nor want to store it....

                        Hope this helps..

                          Hi Omar,

                          I'm beginning to understand what is going on here.
                          Please confirm these two observations, (1) the signature is an area on the page and not in a dialog, which is what I would prefer.
                          (2) The captured signature is only a saved image, which is a separate file outside of the table.
                          Regards

                            My Bad Keith.... There is a <div>signature</div> below the grid. When the sign button is pressed a line appears below the grid for the user to sign. I had to choose the image version of the signatature and stored it temporarily in the grid to render the signature in a report. You have full control of what you want to do with the captured signature. An image file is not automatically saved to file.
