Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: New Report Server Feature Pack

Is there a way to test if this is working?

I updated both Alpha 5 developer and server, installed the feature pack code for the report server, republished all files. Everything is working OK, but I don't notice any difference. Maybe that is good.

Also, how do you get the export to word functionality?

After watching the video again I see that it is available in the report generator. Is it available from the web server?

Frank, I am planning on testing this by running one of my more complex reports that typically runs 7 to 10 seconds on one workstation. At the same time I'll run the app on 2 other workstations sitting side by side using screens that display grids and such. Hopefully opening the pages with grids are not waiting for the report to display. This will give me an unscientific feel for how it's behaving from a users perspective.

Then I'll do formal testing with a tool called Loadster. I have lots of test scripts that cover various scenarios and will set one up to load test 50 concurrent users with 10 of them running reports and the other 40 opening up all the other pages and submitting new records and updates. The Loadster reports will give me specific test results that will reveal how long each transaction took to process and render

During all testing, I'll have the performance monitor running on the web host server and will be watching the Alpha log files

I'd be interested in learning what testing approaches others have come up with ....

I am running the code in the release notes as Jim suggested and it returns 'Report server is not running'

                any ideas?

It does not start until you print your first report.

Re: New Report Server Feature Pack

I have printed a couple of reports and still not running. Is there a special report layout that takes advantage of this? Perhaps my 10 page pdf reports are not formatted to use the report server. I think I am missing something here.

So you are looking at the task manager on the server and you do not see two alpha's running?

                            Restart the computer or server.
Also I am not sure what the project settings needs to be at, are you set for regular pdf "old school amyuni or xps" I think you have to have xps off... Just a guess

I rebooted as Chad suggested and I seem to be getting somewhere now. All of my reports are throwing errors regarding my mysql connection. Thanks a lot Chad. I will have to try again tomorrow.
