Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Can the Login component be set wit a Default

    Hi All,

I want the School Portal users to login in with their email address but do not want have them type the @myschool.com. I just want them to neter their username before the domain portion of the email address. Is this possible? If so can you point me in the right direction.

    Thanks for any help received.

The official login component has built-in features to work with security framework, and no place to interject code into that process. (I remember my conversation with the author where I wished there had been some ability to interject code). So, to do what you want, create your own login form using Dialog. Append your domain to the username and then use the a5ws_login_user(UserID as C, Password as C , TargetPage as C) function to perform the login. Leave the TargetPage blank in the function and it will behave just like the official login dialog.

In security setting change Valid Email adress to userid that will do the job. NB: create a backup of the security tables once you change this all data is lost cq invalid.

        Thanks Steve

I have tried appending the domain name to the username and I had a problem whereby the first login didn't filter the form by email address but if the user logged out and then back in the filter worked fine. Has baffled me for a couple of months and the staff are now sick og logging in twice so I have decided taht they can type in full email address and that works fine. I was just hoping I could have the Domain name already in the Login box so they only have to type in their username.

If you are filtering by userid (what they type in the username field at login), then maybe you need to look at the code in the login.a5w page. Assuming you are using the login.a5w page that came with the ATG Framework, be sure that the code that stores userid to the session var is above the actual login dialog. I have mine above the Doctype.

Eric, Chris still wants the full email address in security framework, but to allow students to just type in the name part of the email address for login. And, you could just change security framework to Value without doing a bunch of additional programming in the custom registration and user management system to shift to non-email address username.

Re: Can the Login component be set wit a Default

              Thanks Guys.

Steve, I use ATG For the Parents Portal which has been fine since the installation.

Above is the internal Portal for staff and I just use the A5 Login Component as there are only a couple of hundred users. I use the email address to filter the data for the specific staff. The Portal is linked to a bought in MIS of which I access the tables and pull out Class Data etc based on the email address that is setup against the Teacher in the MIS.
