Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Is anyone using report.saveas()" in a web application?

Is anyone using report.saveas() in a web application to export a free-form or layout table report to XLS, HTML, RTF or XPS formats? The documentation says the function is limited to Desktop Applications only. Steve Wood indicated that it was possible in this thread:

    http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...=export+report

Is anyone else using it in a multi-user web application?

    Thanks

        Hi Dave,

I recently had issues with this command.

After I got it figured out, I posted my resolution.

        Hope this helps.

        Gregg

:Report.SaveAs("reportname","PDF","","","c:\reports\filename.pdf",.F.) works great for desktop apps, but fails when being called from a .a5w page.
:Report.SaveAs("reportname@c:\datadir\tablename.ddd","PDF","","","c:\report\filename.pdf",.F.) works great for desktop apps and when being call from a .a5w page.

Re: Is anyone using report.saveas()" in a web application?

            hello

i do use it with the following code in web application and works fine.

            Code:
            dim filePO as c
            	filePO = "c:\A5Webroot\Reports\PurchaseOrder_"+poID+"_"+date_format(date(),"yyyMMdd")+"_"+time("0h0m")+".pdf"
            	dim vReport as c
            	vReport = report.saveAs("purchase_order","PDF",vFilter,"",filePO)
however i noticed you asked for other formats like xls, html, rtf formats.
            i have not tried.
but i will try this evening.
(vFilter is defined two lines above.)
            thanks for reading

Re: Is anyone using report.saveas()" in a web application?

Gandhi - you might consider modifying your code to save the file in the session folder. While the addition of the date/time keeps your filename unique, putting it in the session folder is additional guarantee against users duplicating/crossing results, and it provides automatic cleanup when the session folder expires. I note this here mostly so that others following this example understand that placement in the session folder is better.

Re: Is anyone using report.saveas()" in a web application?

Thanks for mentioning that Steve. I do that with most of the reports that I generate, however, there are some, like customer contracts that I automatically save in the customers folder. I have not had an issue where more than one has tried to create and save this report but it is something I need to think about.

This may sound strange, but my last attempt to save something into the session folder failed miserably.

Could you please explain how to save it into the session folder ?

Is anyone else having issues with report.saveas()? All of a sudden after Build 3036- 4040 the pdf's created with report.saveas() have 0 bytes in size and are unreadable. The reports still generate OK with action javascript.

I have found that if the Output_Filename of the report.savas() method has a comma in it the report is not saved. I have sent in a bug report as this used to not be a problem.

I would think a comma in a filename would be the error, unless something really changed.

Not sure of what you mean.

Here is a link to the windows file naming conventions.
                              http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...=vs.85%29.aspx

I have been using the same method for over 2 years and it worked OK. After the update is when the problem started. Alpha is complaining not windows.

i will admit having come from the old days of 8 char file names the thought of using a comma in a file name took a leap of faith.
