Hi all.
Cut my teeth on Alpha Four (vers: 3 if i'm not mistaken - many moons ago) and untill recently i've never run into a problem i couldn't figure out with a bit of trail and error. Until now. Here's my dilemna, Ive had to upgrade computers (was running an old socket 754Sempron). I have a machine named "office" (does capitalization matter?). I also have an activation key. But it isn't for the machine named "office", apparently. So, either I've already been assigned the two permitted activation keys, or, i changed keys at some point several (maybe 8 to 10) years ago when upgrading from an AMD K6 to the Sempron. Proabably the latter because i've been running A5 on only one machine for ... as long as i can recall.
I can get things to work on the "office" machine by installing A5V7 normally (thus implementing the necessary registry entires) and then copying the entire A5V7 folder from the previous "office" machine installation to the new "office" machine. I have no idea what the activation key matching "office" machine is, i don't have a record of it. I just know the above method works as long as the machine is named "office".
What i need to know is what machine name matches the acitivation key i DO have a record of. I suspect it matches whatever i had named the VERY old AMD K6 machine.
So what do you guys think would be my best bet for : 1) getting the correct activation key for "office" machine, and 2) getting the correct machine name matching the activation key i do have? I tried calling tech support last week but finally gave up after about 20 minutes on hold. I've read some old posts suggesting calling sales, but i really don't want to bother them if that isn't their department.
Suggestions?
Thanks kindly,
Larry
