Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

New computer and Alpha stalls during publish at "Uploading file a5_application ..."

I have replaced a computer that I publish with and when trying to publish for the first time, Alpha stalls at:

    "Uploading file a5_application.a5i to a5_application.a5i"

Then when I try again I get:

    "command: v.env.on_completion=on_completion
    Property not found
    v.env subelement not found"

Any suggestions on what or where I should look for first?

    Thanks
    Tony

Re: New computer and Alpha stalls during publish at "Uploading file a5_application ..

Update to the newest build 3044_4041. There was a known problem in build 2765 where the upload could stall or generate an error and cause the file to be locked on the server. The file lock will release after about 5 minutes (depending on the server operating system). The current build should not have a problem with FTP publish

Jerry. I am running build 3044_4041 and also experiencing Alpha stalling @ "Uploading file a5_application.a5i to a5_application.a5i". The transfer window at the bottom show "0 bytes of nn bytes" (stalls on 0) and then after about a minute the window disappears without error and the publish history is updated, but nothing is published.

Have you tried using a different FTP server; I use Filezilla server and it works very well with Alpha.

Re: New computer and Alpha stalls during publish at "Uploading file a5_application ..

I am still able to upload my app from my old laptop and a desktop computer.
I have reinstalled Alpha Five and reinstalled the patch on the new laptop without any luck.
When I get back to the office, I may try installing the latest patch, unless there are any other ideas.
                Thanks

I have the same problem but have tracked it back to a router or network problem. When I use our new netgear router it stalls, but when using my wireless 3G modem or network at home it works fine.
I remember reading on the forum here that someone found it to be a file sharing setting.
Could be way off, just my 2 cents.

Just wanted to make sure the newest build 3044_4041 is OK for day to day real use. I'm assuming since Jerry recommended it that it is safe to use, but wanted to see if anyone has had issues after installing 3044_4041 that I might need to be aware of.

Any other ideas on what might be causing this?

                      Thanks

My new computer is a MacBook Pro, using parallels and running Windows XP
Can any of this be the cause of Alpha stalling during upload?
                        Still searching ......

                          Tony:

Did you try a different FTP client like Frank suggested? I have been using FileZilla (and occasionally WinSCP) and both work without a problem. If you are publishing to a WAS on a remote server (ie datacenter) you should either use a VPN or an external FTP program which use SSL and can encrypt the transfer. Unfortunately the Alpha 5 built in FTP program does not support SFTP.
