Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Issues loading grids in Row Expander Linked Content

    Hi all,

    I am having an issue with linked grids in a Row Expander not showing properly with their page tabs, see image RowExpanderLinkedGrids1.png.

    After reloading or refreshing the page, everything looks just fine as expected, see image RowExpanderLinkedGridsOK.png.

    Sometimes, linked grids will show just fine, but after expanding some rows, when going back to previous rows then the problem will show.

    I have the following code that deals with the Row Expand/Collapse events:
    Code:
    [B]canRowExpand:[/B]
    var rows = {grid.object}._rowsInGrid;
    var ele = '';
    for(var i = 1; i <= rows; i++) {
        ele = $('{grid.componentname}.R' + i);
        //alert('Hide row ' + i);
        ele.style.display = 'none';
    }

    ele = $('{grid.componentname}.R' + e.rowNumber);
    ele.style.display = '';
    Code:
    [B]canRowCollapse:[/B]
    var rows = {grid.object}._rowsInGrid;
    var ele = '';
    for(var i = 1; i <= rows; i++) {
        ele = $('{grid.componentname}.R' + i);
        ele.style.display = '';
    }
    I am using A5 3044_4041 (Released on 07 NOV 2012) and MS-SQL 2008R2.

    I would appreciate any help in this matter.

    Thanks!!!

    Clearly your adding display:none; to the style attribute is causing some problems. The framework is set up to manipulate the DOM and (for example) place "working..." messages when callbacks are performed. You could try changing some of the grid property settings - tell it not to refresh on expand, or maybe change the working message to blank.
    If you don't succeed with this very "invasive" approach, try applying a user filter when expanding instead. Your user filter could be based on StudentID of the selected row. This way, only your selected row will show in the grid.

      I do not have anything in either of the client side events, but I have just noticed the same behavior on one of my grids with 2 linked grids in a row expander.

        Hi Andy,
        Thanks for the reply.

        I commented the js in canRowExpand/Collapse events and still I see the same issue. I am able to duplicate this by doing the following:
        1. Expand one row and then collapse.
        2. Expand another row and then collapse.
        3. Expand the previous row in step 1 and you should see the problem, a "Working..." message and no linked grids created.

          Would you please try my steps in previous post to see if you can duplicate the issue?

            Hi,

            I do not get the issue by expanding and collapsing the row expander. I can recreate the issue by closing the form and then re-opening it and if I expand any of the first 5 or 6 rows I get the problem, or if I search for records in the parent table I get the same problem with the first few resultant rows.

              Lance, thanks for trying, even thought we are not able to duplicate using the same steps, at least we both are seeing the same problem.

              I hope somebody can jump in with an explanation on why are we seeing this issue to see if we can fix it, since it is a problem to ask the end use to reload/refresh the page every time.

                Hi Lance,

                By any chance do you have any "Security Group" assigned in the Linked Content?

                I do, and after "Unchecking All" and re-testing, I was not able to duplicate the problem which lead me to believe that by having a security group assigned in the Linked Content may have something to do with the grid not being showing even though the current user do have access to that grid.

                If you do have security groups in the Linked Content, would you please test without them to see if you can duplicate the problem?

                Thanks again!!!

                  Hi Edhy,

                  I do not have any security groups assigned in the linked content, and just in case I changed the component security to always allowed, republished and still the same problem.

                    I have done a work around - Turned the whole grid and linked grids into a searchable dialog with tabbed repeating sections, no issues and actually looks nicer

                        items.png

                        The search is revealed by the hyperlink and can search by section, manufacturer or description or all three and is dynamically progressive so it is easy to drill down to the item I want to find, then I can see all item rates and on the next tab all purchases for that item. The rates and purchases are sorted so that the newest is at the top.

                        The only problem I have found since publishing is the slider at the top does not render, this is due to CSS a search of this board tells me. I will try and rectify this later.
