Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Can't Load Attachments

I can't add an attachment to a post. When I try to use the "Manage Attachments" dialogue I get an error that says that a post can only have "five attachements". But I haven't attached any files to the post yet. This error happens after I select a file to upload and click on the "upload" button in the basic uploader. I do have five files showing in the Manage Attachments dialogue. These are five files that I have attached to previous postings.

Please let me know if anyone knows what I am doing wrong,

Please post an image of your attachment dialogue and tell us what button you are pressing.

Or make a video of what you are doing...

CP, was the JPG image file open somewhere else when you tried to upload it?

          Hi Tom,

I thought that was a problem, so I rebooted the computer. Still no luck. I also tried a different computer. Still have the same result.

I see you are using Chrome.

            Try using IE or FireFox...

Not sure what version of Chrome you are using so it doesn't make sense for us to try to test without the version.

This is an example for CP.

The attachment is a simple TXT file.

Check this screencast to see how its done.

I am also unable to upload a zip file. I am using IE, and the file is under 5mg. This should be a simple process, it should not matter which browser you use. As long as you meet the size, and extension requirements it should go.

Amen to that. I've just spent the last 2 hours trying to attach a zip file to a message using Chrome, Firefox and IE, all to no avail.

I looked at the videos to make sure I was following the right sequence. No difference. And, by the way, whoever came up with that interface should be pilloried.

Same problem I am having. I wish this could be solved.

I recently upgraded to fiber optics and while my nsp was resolving issues with my staic ip and dns my emails were being rejected from a few email servers namely Google. I tried to submit a bug report to alpha and it was rejected. Alpha uses Google email servers for their email. I did some research and found that because they could not verify my server with reverse dns that it was considered spam and is rejected. I also found that you can't upload videos and images to google without reverse dns. So I am wondering if Alpha uses Google to store the images as well. I have since gotten my ip and dns resolved and emails work OK but I still can't do attachments. I don't know if any of this applies to anyone else experiencing this problem but I thought I would put it out there.
