Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Internal Lookup, is current date between dates in child table?

I have a staff table with a child table of where each member of staff have booked their holidays.

I would like to colour each row yellow, in the staff grid, only while they are away, between the the start and end dates of their holiday.

    All suggestions welcome.

    Hi Keith.

You will know about the conditional style expression option I guess.
You need to create an expression that produces what you want.
Consider having a "begin date" and an "end date" as a period in time.

    Then, think along this line:

If "working day" is equal to or greater then "begin date" .AND. "working day" is equal to or smaller then "end date" style differently (yellow).

You can work out the code from there I assume ?

      Hi Marcel,

      Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately your assumption is not correct, that is why I posted the question here.

        Keith,

Are you planning this to be in javascript or xbasic ?

If you are using SQL this can be done with a sub-query or left join.

Greg, I would prfer xbasic as I can understand that better, but I'm slowly getting the hang of javascript.

Lee, the tables are SQL, what is a "sub-query or left join" and how would that work?

              Keith,

The conditional cell style for a field in a grid is a server-side calculation, hence, the (logical) expression you need to specify uses xbasic syntax. These can be defined in the Grid Fields display settings area of the Grid builder. All client-side settings (where you could also create conditional style settings) however work with Javascript. This means that you can not use xbasic logical expressions and you also can't reference summary values in your expressions. So the question whether to use xbasic or javascript also depends on whether your conditional style function is executed client-side or server-side.

                Hi Marcel,

I must be missing the point you are trying to make. I already know about which code to use server side (xBasic) or client side (Javascript), my question was, how do I get a value of True to change the display if a member of Staff is on holiday.

What is the script to use, to achieve this please.
                Regards

I haven't tested of course, but in psuedo-sql...dependent on you DB, etc.... you could try something like:

                  SELECT S.StaffName, IFNULL(H.HolidaysID,1,0) AS IsOnHoliday
FROM Staff S LEFT JOIN Holidays H ON S.StaffID=H.StaffID AND GETDATE() BETWEEN H.StartDate AND H.EndDate
                  ORDER BY S.StaffName

Assumes holiday ranges don't overlap. Will certainly need to tweak this SQL to work in your DB.

Then your client-side conditional statement would check the value of IsOnHoliday.
