How to set the name of a session file and get the local path?

Is there any way to create a temporary session file and then download it with a meaningful file name?

I want to download an exported report using a dialog, but I don’t want to use the random file name supplied by GetRequestTempFileName. Is there any way to supply my own file name? Here is an excerpt of my code:

I am doing my testing in Working Preview and the code above only works when I supply the local path of the temporary file (e.g., C:\Users\DaveF\AppData\Local\Temp\tmp3ADB.pdf). It will not download if I use FormatFileDataURL and set $(ifr).src to a URL. The URL that FormatFileDataURL returns is "/A5SessionFile/MyReport.pdf".

I can change the temporary file to a more friendly name using "Session.SaveDataAsFile("MyReport.pdf", file.to_blob(tmpFileName))", but I cannot get the value back for the full path and file name.

I figured out a solution to my problem. Instead of trying to change the temporary file name on the web server to a user friendly client-side file name, I discovered that this can be done using the "__a5filedownload.a5w" script. I looked at the source and noticed that it accepts a number of different parameters including an optional client-side file name (csfilename). If you do not provide one, then it will use the file name supplied in the "fileToDownload=" parameter minus the path.

So you just need to create a unique temporary file using Request.GetRequestTempFileName(), save the report to the temporary file name, and then add the client-side file name parameter (&csfilename=) as follows:

Unrelated to your issue, but thank you so much for the code examples you gave on this thread.
I have been trying to print a PDF filled from a database (over XFDF) using a Print button on a grid row for ever without success.
I have always had to use two buttons, create and then view.

The redirect solution never worked.
Session.SaveDataAsFile(xfdffile, xml)
Response.Redirect(Session.FormatFileDataURL(xfdffile))

The idea to return java script with a new window location never occurred to me.

"window.location = 'http://" + request.host + "/A5SessionFile/" + xfdffile + "';"
