XBasic Function and Passed Values?

I have an xbasic function that I need to pass a value from a control to but have no idea how to do it.

I'd like to write:

function addToCart as c (e as p, myControlValue as c)

but I'm sure that is not allowed.

This doesn't work either:

dim _filter as c = "Reg_Number = " + e.control.reg_number

How can a control value be passed to an XBasic function?

Are you using an Ajax callback? If so, use the option in the Action Javascript builder "Create function prototype" and it should have everthing there you need.

At what point do you need to process this control value on the server-side? After the user clicks on the control or clicks on another control like a button?

Let's say you need to call this Xbasic function when the user clicks a button. You would edit the button's onclick event and add an Action Javascript that performs an Ajax callback. You will specify your function name in the builder. Your function must be defined as follows:

function addToCart as c (e as p)

The value of your control should be in request.variables.v.r1.reg_number

request.variables.v.r1.reg_number is just what I was looking for.
I would have been soooo much easier if I could just add the variables on the function line like Visual Basic.

I know what you mean, but if you use the guide in Alpha you'll see that really, you are.

Go to the onClick or onChange or onFocus or whatever you want, click on Add New Action, select Ajax callback, enter a function name, then Create function prototype. There you should see a whole bunch of information, some of which will be e._currentRowDataOld and e._currentRowDataNew. Examples are given. The variable e has a whole lot of variables within. If the request.variables.v.r1.reg_number works, great--I'd check that closely on multiple rows, though, since my read of that would be that "r1" is for row 1 values--but I've never used it. I have used the e._currentRowDataOld.reg_number and e.currentRowDataNew.reg_number method lots.
