Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    lock screen or disable submit button

    my dialogs usually have an afterDialogValidate event which after the data has been submitted runs some custom xbasic and then redirects to another page.

    sometimes the script takes a little longer than expected to run through and get to the page redirect. the user becomes impatient and clicks the submit button again.

    i know how to lock the screen for a set amount of time but i dont know how to do it for the time taken from submit pressed to page redirect.

    i have seen this on msg board

    Code:
    A5.msgBox.show('Saving data...','<div style=\'padding: 20px;\'><img src="CSS/A5System/images/wait.gif" >&nbsp;Please wait data is being saved...</div>','none',function() {});
    but doesnt last long enough as obviously my afterDialogValidate is xbasic and not an ajax call back. i havent done a lot with ajax callbacks (not really sure where to start)

    so is it possible to lock the screen / disable the submit button / display a wait message for the period of the afterDialogValidate xbasic script or if better to convert this script to an ajax callback, how would i go about doing this.

    tables are .dbf

    thanks

    richard

    Re: lock screen or disable submit button

    There is a javascript function that you can define and call on completion of the record save. In this function you can clear a div or whatever. Remember that you don't want to lock a user out forever if the callback never returns...so a failure timeout may be useful in this case, and you can clear it if the callback succeeds. http://www.hscripts.com/tutorials/ja...ar-timeout.php

        but doesnt last long enough
        That code is mine (though I got the core of it from others), and I'm confused by your statement, because in my experience that box stays up until there's code to close it. In fact, if I have an XBasic error in the afterDialogValidate it will freeze up indefinitely. Is it really closing on you prematurely?

        I'm putting that code in the Inline Javascript in the onclick of the Submit button, then in the Client-side afterValidate I have this code, which could be shortened to the A5.msgBox.hide();

        Code:
        if (e.hasErrors) {
        	A5.msgBox.show('Warning','<div style=\'padding: 20px;\'><img src=\'validationerror.png\' />There was a validation error saving.  Close this notice and look for validation errors to correct.</div>','none',function() {});
        } else {
        	A5.msgBox.hide();
        }
        Admittedly I'm still learning the new dialog component but it has behaved like the Grid Detail Views which have this kind of code throughout my application and I'm confident they never closed prematurely, with XBasic validation at the field level and server-side canRecordSubmit level...

          Re: lock screen or disable submit button

          Richard, your page redirect/reload is probably firing after the popup has displayed and therefore making it disappear. It is likely a timing issue and you could try using setTimeout:
          setTimeout(function() { //put your code in here },300);

            this is useful but as my code is in the afterdialogvalidate event i dont think this applies.

              Chris,

              you are correct, the post in which I found that code had the code placed in the client side events - 'CanAjaxCallBack' and 'AfterAjaxCallbackCompleted'.

              obviously these wouldnt work as i wasnt running an ajax call back.

              this helps a great deal.

              Andy thanks for your help again, this was my fault but appreciate you looking.

              kind regards

              Richard

                Re: lock screen or disable submit button

                this is working great but i wanted to put my own image in the message box - done ok, but i cant work out the correct syntax to get rid of the border.

                Code:
                	if (e.hasErrors) {
                	A5.msgBox.show('Warning','<div style=\'padding: 20px;\'><img src="images/icons/warning.png" [COLOR="#FF0000"]border-style: none;[/COLOR]/>You have questions to answer. Close this message and answer all required questions.</div>','none',function() {});
                } else {
                	A5.msgBox.hide();
                }
                any ideas?

                MORE - sorry, posted to soon, got it.

                Code:
                <img src="images/icons/warning.png"/ style="border-style: none;"
