Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Printing Rports from a mobile device from within an A5 web app

    Has anyone dealt with this problem of printing reports while using an A5 web app in a mobile device such as an IPad? I don't see how it can be done in an IPad, since you cannot print a pdf report.

    Does anyone have experience with an Andriod device printing reports from an A5 web app?

    Do you mean actually print it or view it on the screen?

    I just opened one on my Samsung S3. I don't have my web app setup quite right for mobile devices just yet but what seemed to happen was the window popped up to show the report and then just started downloading to my device and didn't show up in the window. I received it fine though and can view it on my device. I could send it to a printer if I had my phone setup to do that.

      One way that I have successfully used for the "normal" reports (not the HTML ones) is to have the report open in a new tab/window. It then displays as the full window PDF which can then be printed from the iPad or saved to the iBooks library.

        Hi Lyle,

        Do you know how to print the contents of a Static Text object in a dialog?

            OK, do you know how to plot a route on a map from a grid and then print it?

                For maps, you need to do a bit more javascript in the dialog than in the grid - but in return you have way more flexibility.

                  Hi Andy,

                  Thanks for the pointer to the videos. I have in fact viewed these and have built a dialog with the route pointers on it What I would like to know now is how to print the Text in the Static Text object that has the route directions.

                    Re: Printing Rports from a mobile device from within an A5 web app

                    Keith, this is typically a browser function.
                    I would hit ctrl + P in your browser, or File->print.
                    Or for iPad, click the small icon to the left of the URL text box that looks like a rectangle with an arrow in it. This will open up options to print the page (if you have a network printer).
                    Or set the onclick of a button to window.print();
                    Or if you wish to print the text alone with a button, then popup a new dialog containing only a static text field and a window.print() button. Populate static text value using the onRenderComplete js event.

                      Hi Andy,

                      Thanks for window.print(); What would the code be to Preview?

                      If I open another dialog, how would I populate the static text in that new instance?

                        Not certain how consistent browsers are with preview, although you may be able to bind a key in a specific browser.

                        But just put something like this in the popup dialog's onRenderComplete:
                        Code:
                        var po = {dialog.Object}.getParentObject();
                        if(po) {
                          {dialog.Object}.setValue('MYTEXT', po.getValue('MYPARENTTEXT'));
                        }

                          are you referring to regular browser based a5 application?
                          i have mine, browser based application, that i use for my store management. since it is only browser based, not a native mobile ipad application, i run this on safari and print my reports to my printers that are airplay enabled without any problem.

                            I am trying to accomplish this but when I set the pdf to open in a window it doesn't open it in a new browser tab but rather just opens it in a typical modal-popup window. Is there some special javascript that needs to be done here? I know I can open a new browser window if I open a URL but I don't think that is what I want to do when I am trying to run a report. Thanks!
