Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

rlip.a5w is my login page using websecurity. Is it possible to login in such a way that will crash the server?

It is normal that public server is under attacks all the time. Normally attacks are targeted towards open server ports.

Login page post happened 12:35:08 and server error 12:35:22. I wonder what happened during these 14 seconds before server error.

It is unlikely that 'someone' is attacking any specific page in your application, like not attacking the login page. Typically anonymous attacks are against "known" pages like admin.php, or similar. No robot knows anything about any A5W page. It looks more like you have a programming bug on your login page.

Also, your error log shows you are using the Pre-Release on your server, 6 patches old. Lots of security framework updates in the pre-release.

We use SQL security and one of our internal servers constantly reports the first error you reported in xbasic.log but does not appear to cause any problem and the same app on other servers is okay.

The second error in xbasic.log looks to be related to the connection to the web security tables on login.
is it a particular IP address that causes the server crash ?
Are you using dbf or sql security tables ?

          Re: A5 Server Under Attack?

yes, it is the same ip related to each crash so I know who the culprit is.
websecurity is sql based with active link tables.

ps... thanks steve for the heads up on the patches. I just downloaded them.

not seen the connection error but we did have issues with WAS freezing and crashing intermittently in v11.
Alpha Software added some fixes to prevent those which should be available in the current production release.

Other things you can try are
            - enable Log Raw HTTP traffic temporarily - This will log much more details so you can compare a good and bad post however this might make the server less responsive whilst enabled
            - deny access to that specific IP via WAS IP Restrictions or firewall

              Re: A5 Server Under Attack?

You posted in the V10 forum, but the message indicated you were running a V11 pre-release. There were some recent changes in the security related to using SQL tables in the pre-release and if using them, you should be on the latest one.
