Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Marcel, we cannot (and should not) try and tell Alpha what to do.
I reserve the right however to tell them what I want though.

Yes! One cannot argue with that.

      Good afternoon Ted, and Good morning Eliot;

Both of you are using the v.12 beta. Are the v.12 features still being unlocked in the same way? And are all the same desktop features (as they previously "existed" in v.11) still present?

        Re: v12 Release Notes

I've been using V12 Beta, and I can tell you the mobile part is just awesome, but I can also tell that the desktop part is practically abandoned. Only one new thing compared with all the new features for the web and mobile parts, and it is the conditionals in reports (which can be used for mobile and web too) so it is not new feature for the desktop only. Alpha really need to work out with all the tools that do not work really well. I am working on some reports and need to put and HTML object and most of the time when you need to re-arrange the html box the control disappear or behave really really strange. The bands (header and footer) sometimes do not activate when selecting from the right click, you need to activate them via menu. One cool feature will be to arrange objects based on the space available, distribute them equally, right now it can be done with trial and error, in Photoshop you select all objects and all of them can be distributed based on the first and last selected control, all in the middle will be equally distributed between them. I can not say the same as some had stated that bug reporting is practically useless. What I've reported I have always received a reply if its a bug and been fixed, or just something wrong I've been doing, and 100% of the time all reports have been replied by Selwyn and later follow-up by other Alpha-employe, so for the support part I really have nothing negative to say. Although I really like this all new stuff about mobile and web, all my clients are for the desktop part and they have no interest in moving to the web, so probably I will skip v12, unless new features really cool are implemented in the version.

Right now there is a separate installer for the V12. I think Richard said you can contact him related to the beta test and he will give you access. Don't know if you need to be a subscriber, or they are allowing regular users. But try it, maybe you can have it.

I have no interest in working with betas for the very reasons you indicated - encountering more bugs, and feeling obligated to thoroughly report them... (I'm a subscription holder too, but I'm "burned out" as far as bug reporting goes.) ~ Although, I have little doubt that they are aggressively pursuing the web and tablet based bugs that you are reporting. (Undoubtedly, that's a primary objective at present.) Bug reporting is not useless, not in the least. However, reporting desktop bugs (as I have continued to do) has resulted in very different results over the past year or so as the desktop has been "depreciated."

Thank you for your review of v.12. It addresses many questions & concerns!

              Re: v12 Release Notes

All reports have been web/mobile related. I am working on a personal database related to some college dvd courses I collect, and I'm designing an app to run all videos from the database via IIS. Right now it is working, there are minor issues with the mobile app where the covers are not rendered correctly in a snaking mode, the grid is skipping some spaces, and the simulator shows the cover with the right aspect ratio, but run from the Ipad the covers look distorted. So I need to keep trying to get it right, because the simulator "says" something wrong. Run from the web everything is ok.

                Eric,

Please explain. What to you mean by practically abandoned? Few, if any new features or most of the desktop is no longer there?

I mean that you'll see what you see in v11, nothing different.

Here are the videos to the conditionals in the report

In case any of you haven't seen it.

Wow, you said a magic word: "IIS" ~ Please tell us more about IIS integration!
(There have been so many rumors, some of which indicated that everything web based was moving to the "amazon cloud.")

I don't think this is what you want to read, but it is just to play them locally, this has nothing to do with what you're expecting with the IIS, in fact, the videos were already playing with v11 and I just moved to V12 beta for the mobile part and the ux component.

Not really abandoned Marcel - no earth shattering innovations although the new reporting and Excel stuff promises to be interesting.
I'm a bit behind on testing the Beta as my contract is pretty much full on at the moment.
It is probable that the DT will morph into a Webtop using the Grids etc. I'm cool with that as it will give me the best of both worlds.
Edit - sorry Rob. You sounded like M for a moment
