Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Alpha Window Title SDI Form Title

    Hey Folks,

I've read through a number of great posts on this subject (thanks for all that) but would still like to ask about this.

My app is set up, in the Workspace Properties (of Alpha 5 V11) to use a Startup form, hide the Control Panel, Min, Max and Close buttons on the form... to make it look and act like an SDI.
I only have one main form in the app which is always displayed... everything runs from this form.

My Alpha Window Title is being set a number of different places in my main form... I've tried onInit, etc... all the posibilities.
I created a shortcut with the Alpha tool so all that's good.

But... I still don't really get the title I want in the Alpha Window.

    I'd like... "Digital Adjuster"

but I'm getting... "Digital Adjuster - [Claims]"

"Claims" is the name of my one main form and I don't need it displayed. I'd love to get rid of the "- [Claims]"

Can I do that? The SDI setup is wonderful... almost perfect except for this.

The Alpha 5 windows displays my Icon and "Digital Adjuster" for a couple of seconds... while the Claims form is loading. As soon as it's maximized "- [Claims]" is added.

    Thanks all,

    David

    David,

Have you checked the form's "window/caption" property?

Re: Alpha Window Title SDI Form Title

Hey Peter, thanks for making me look at that.

I did get this working. I checked the window/caption property... in form design. Since the Workspace is set up for SDI, the "Can be Maximized" checkbox must be on. If this checkbox is checked, then the "Has Caption" checked is automatically checked and greyed out.

So, because you said to check the properties... I thought... let's check the Object Viewer while in design... see if there's something I can set in code.

For my Form, under the Object property "Window" I see

      :frmClaims.Window.Allow_maximize
      :frmClaims.Window.Has_caption

I thought I could let the form open, Maximize, then turn all Maximize and turn off the form Caption.
Both these throw errors... there is no property.

      I also saw :frmClaims.Window.Window_Title

So... I tried all these in various combinations... with and without the extra ".Window". I get either a no property error or no effect.

But, I noticed that my A5 window title would be set to my desired title, I'd get the error about Has_Caption isn't a property, and then my title would stay "Digital Adjuster"
If I take out the Has_Caption line... and produce no error, then I don't get the Title I want. Hmmmm... interesting.

Then I looked at the order of things running when the application starts: I have...

An Autoexec - setting the A5 window size
Workspace set to open a form and maximize it
A script running in the OnInit event of my main form checking licensing
Also running in OnInit is :A5.window_title = "Digital Adjuster"

So... I moved :A5.window_title = "Digital Adjuster" to OnActivate.
And I moved my licensing script to OnActivate.

And it works. "Digital Adjuster - [Claims]" flashes on the screen... because the form is being Maximized by the Workspace SDI settings.
But... then... the form's OnActivate takes over... and resets the A5 Window title.

I may have read other posts along this line... about the flashing undesired title... I think so.

So many things are tried that one gets lost in the settings. Thanks for sending me back to the form properties... that set me on the right road.

Simple things can get complicated, can't they? Glad you found a solution.
