Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I am not sure whether Alpha Software knows this, but....

The forum's continuity is absolutely far under par. It has been unavailable the largest part of todays European day (from 11:00 to about 17:00) and there has hardly any day gone by in the past week where it was not at least a couple of hours per day unavailable. That is really something you should look in to, since the forum is one of the best tools for any Alpha developer available. It does not have to be this way anno 2013, really.
Good providers offer 99 percent availability or more. I would strongly suggest doing some research with regards to what causes this and the possible remedies to have this forum up-and-running reliable and full time.

Thank you Marcel. We are aware of the issues and working with a consultant to resolve them. It is not a problem with provider connectivity, rather with application errors, so it is not as straightforward as selecting a new host. We are taking the problems very seriously and hope to solve them quickly.

OK Lenny, thanks for letting us know. If you know that something has attention, that is most of the time enough. I hope this can be solved soon.

Good to know. I was getting "Invalid access to memory location" when trying to reach the forum in Firefox or Chrome. After encountering this error several times over the past week I cleared all of my caches, rebooted, and scanned my machine for viruses, etc. Sometimes this even seemed to work(!), only to reoccur a day or so later. Finally, I tried a different machine and when I got the same result I assumes the problem was on Alpha's end.

I have been experiencing daily "invalid access to memory location" issues as well. Hope you find the problem!

            Lenny,

You do have a backup, right? I'm trying to catch up to Al on posts.

This error was prevalent for me for most of the day ... again.
              Cheers!

I've been thinking/wondering the same thing.....
The "Invalid access to memory location" is nothing new. It has been around for quite an extended period of time. (I think for several months.)
