Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to set an Image Controls(Other Controls Tab) URL from JavaScript onClick event???

    Hello

    I have been unable to find an example in the Doc or the Forum ( or just not asking the question correctly ) on how to set an Image Controls( from the Other Controls Tab) URL from a JavaScript onClick event?

    When I press the button, I currently get Data from a remote web server using JSON. The data is returned and then parsed.

    Part of the data is a URL to an image file that I now want to display on my UX form.

    I need to know how to update the Image Controls URL and display the image.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Are you familiar with $sa?

      Thank you for responding to another of my questions. I was not until you pointed it out. However I just tried to use it and it did not work.

      $sa('IMAGE_1','Image URL', 'http://media.ed.edmunds-media.comhummer/h2/2003/oem/2003_hummer_h2_4dr-suv_adventure-series_fq_1_oem_1_276.jpg' );

      Is their anything else that I need to do to update the image?

        The attribute would be the HTML attribute. If it's an IMAGE field, then you probably want to replace 'Image URL' with 'src'. And you'll need to fully qualify your IMAGE_1 name. So, something like '{grid.object}.V.R' + {grid.rowNumber} + '.IMAGE_1' for the first argument. There's a tool in the javascript editor for inserting object names.

          I have tried the following and still no luck

          $sa( 'DLG1.V.R1.IMAGE_1', 'src', 'http://media.ed.edmunds-media.comhummer/h2/2003/oem/2003_hummer_h2_4dr-suv_adventure-series_fq_1_oem_1_276.jpg' );

          I have one button and one Image control on a UX form.

          Any Ideas?

            Hmmmm. Ajax callback to set the value? Maybe it needs to filename_decode the image. What errors did you see (if any) in FireBug?

              I use Google Chrome and their are no errors in the Javascript Console.

                Is your url correct? I attempted to view it. The internet came back with no such location. You could do a quick test to verify that it's the url and not $sa. Go find an image on any website, grab the image url, and plug it into $sa('DLG1.V.R1.IMAGE_1', 'src', 'the image here'); in the javascript console.

                If running $sa on your component fails to change the image, then something else is going on here. I would next try to find out 2 things - 1: what is the ID for your image component on the website and 2: where does that element store it's image url reference?

                You could also run the complement, $ga, and alert/console.log the result after your $sa call to find out what value is being stored for the attribute(s) you modify in your control(s).

                  In the $sa example I left out a slash it should have been and I had added an '_1' ----- 'oops'

                  $sa( 'DLG1.V.R1.IMAGE_1', 'src', 'http://media.ed.edmunds-media.com/hummer/h2/2003/oem/2003_hummer_h2_4dr-suv_adventure-series_fq_oem_1_276.jpg' );

                  I tested this in the JavaScript Console and it now works and does return the image --- YEA

                    I have another question for you, where do I define JavaScript Global Variables, so that they are able to be accessed by the whole UX form, and where do I place the so they are accessable by the whole application?

                      I'm going to talk in terms of a Dialog 2. Because I'm not up on UX. that's a v12 feature, no?

                      For JavaScript variables accessible by the whole form, you can...

                      Declare them outright in the code > JavaScript functions:

                      Code:
                      var someVar = "pancakes";
                      Add them to the window:

                      Code:
                      window.__someVarWithScores = "waffles";
                      Or add them to the dialog object (I think this one is the best if only using it within your dialog. Don't scope higher than you need to.)
                      Code:
                      {dialog.object}.__someOtherVar = "hashbrows";
                      As for the whole application, I suggest using session variables or some other means server-side. Otherwise, you'll be writing a lot of ?vara=ham&varb=sandwich crap in your URLs or creating & handling a lot of cookies. URLs have a length limit. Remember: JavaScript is CLIENT-SIDE. Anything stored client side is not reliable and can be changed by the client. It lives in the client's broweser and is totally not preserved between web pages, unless you persist the data via URL parameters, cookies, or session variables/other server-side mechanisms. Every page nav = all js, HTML, CSS is re-interpreted. You're starting from scratch. Hence why you need to include the same set of js, HTML, and CSS files on every web page on your site to make all pages consistent in look/feel. Otherwise, we'd load it once and never look back. Oh Internets. You could be so much faster.
