Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Issues with new 3341_4088 build

I just installed the 3341_4088 build and am having a weird issue. The issue only seems to effect people using IE 7 or 8. Users with these mentioned versions of IE have to hit Ctrl F5 to clear the browser cache every time they want to do a search. For example, do a search using the search grid, nothing populates, hit Ctrl F5, search works and data populates, leave the page, come back, do another search, data does not populate, hit Ctrl F5, search works again, until they leave the page and come back. IE 9 works fine, Chrome works fine. Anybody have any ideas why IE 7 and 8 are requiring a Ctrl F5 to clear cache every single time a user goes to a new search page? Anyone else having similar issues?

This just started with the new 3341_4088 build.

I did see the very important warning on this update:

VERY IMPORTANT: Before using this upgrade you must publish as least one page or component to your server (does not matter which one). This will cause a new version of the __a5RunGrid.a5w and __a5RunReport.a5w system pages to get published. If you do not publish at least one file, your app will still be using an old version of these system file and it will fail. (You do not need to republish your entire application).

I'm pretty certain I did that, but could that possibly be part of my issue? Or is this some type of bug in the update? Is there any way to check and see that I am using the new version of the a5Run.Grid.a5w and a5RunReport.a5w? And if I am not, is there any way to correct this?

    There is your answer.

Thanks, but how do I fix it now that the update is already in place?

You fix it by doing what the instructions say, publish at least one file to the server. Also make sure you are using the same build on both local and server copy. I would also restart the WAS afterwards.

Local and server are on the same build. I have published. I have also restarted the WAS. Still no fix.

If it ends up not fixable, try running those browsers in IE "compatibilty view". If that fixes it, then you can include code on your webpage to force IE7/8 users to go into compatibility view.

Good thought. It appears that putting the page into compatibility view reloads the page, and does allow it to work temporarily. But if I leave the page and come back, it is broken again. If I then turn "off" compatibility mode, that seems to do another reload of the page, and it works again, until I leave and come back. Any other suggestions?

Steve can you explain what code should be placed on A5W pages to force IE Compatibility Mode?

This would be a big help to me on several of my applications.

Just to add to the fun, we are now on build 3363-4092. Maybe that will fix it.

These updates are like buses, you wait for ages for one to turn up and then a whole bunch turn up together.

                      Peter, thanks for the update.

Thanks for the grins, Peter and Keith. I have been all caught up getting the new ones every day(it seems like) for the past week. Yesterday reported the bug with progressive edit combo lookups (a critical one for me) and can see that today's build supposedly has that fixed. I see there's another thread about today's build where a person is having an issue with grid lines or something... so am hesitant to spend time getting it. Have either one of you installed today's build and how does it look?

                          Hi Carol,

It looks good to me, but I can test every part of every application to see if there is a problem. Hope that does not sound rude. I think you know what I mean.

Nothing like a good laugh when you are building an application.

I hear you, Keith. If I tested every part of every component after every Alpha new build, I would be doing this development for 100 years.... Mostly I cross my fingers and hope.... I generally try to run around doing several things but I could never test everything. I'll probably get the latest tomorrow..

Running todays released build (3369-4093) as well. Seems pretty good. I haven't seen any issues yet and I've been working it pretty hard today.

I had waited until today instead of installing the ones towards the end of last week, hoping they'd put this one out because there were a few issues in the previous one that were bugging me.
