Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to center a button in a Dialog component

    Does anyone know how to horizontally center a button in a dialog? Ive tried everything I can think of. I changed the button Style to text-align: center;. I wrapped the button in a container and set the containers style to text-align: center;. I even wrapped the container and the button in a frame and set every one of the frames style attributes to text-align: center;. The button always appears aligned to the left side of the dialog.

    The only way I can get it to center is to change the buttons Style to margin-left: 100px;. I dont want to have to do it this way in case the width of my dialog changes in the future. Any ideas?

    I also want to center two buttons. I want two buttons to appear on the same line separated by 10 pixels horizontally. Again, I can do this with the margin attribute, but I would prefer to have the browser center the button group if possible in case my dialog width changes down the road.

    Thanks

    I've been using the margins on the containers and using percentages instead of pixels so nothing will change.

    I agree, it is entirely too difficult to get things to center align, and not only buttons

      Re: How to center a button in a Dialog component

      The alignment properties are only going to apply to whatever your button object resides within. If the <div>, <table> or whatever the button is inside is only 50px wide, then your button's margins aren't going to do you much good unless you define them as something other than percentages. You need to specify the container or free-form layout with wrapper tags (such as <p> or <div> or <span>) width property: width = 100%. Once that is accomplished, then setting the text-align: center property for the container/tag should center your button. So, something like...

      Code:
      <!--- in a free-form layout control>
      <p style="width:100%;text-align:center;">
      {MY_BUTTON}
      </p>

        Jinx - Did you set the container's width to 100% and align: center? What about the button?

        Sarah - Thanks for your suggestion. So there is no way to get a button control to center using A5? I would have to use a free-form layout control and hand input my onclick event and button images HTML code?

          No, put the button into the container and set the left margin to a percentage. I think you can then set the right margin as well so 50-50. It's not perfect, but it gets me where I want to go

            Thanks Jinx.

            Sarah - Ok, I understand how it works now. I haven't done much work with Free-form layout controls. I thought I would have to manually enter all of the HTML code for my button. I see now that I can define a button control and set it to hidden. Hopefully, I can still use A5 to setup my onclick event, button images, etc.

            Thanks again.

              Re: How to center a button in a Dialog component

              Sarah,

              My button is still displaying left justified. I added a free-form layout control and added the following code:

              <p style="width:100%;text-align:center;">{button:BUTTON_5}</p>

              I did not set any Style properties for the free-form layout control or the button control using A5's properties. The only A5 property I set is the width which is 130px.

              The free-form layout control is inside of a Frame control. I set the Frame's container style and it's pane style to "text-align: center;"

                Probably. Alpha nests your controls in a lot of divs & tables. You'll need to track down the offending tag in the hierarchy or set the width to something not a %. It's probably A5container.
