Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Capture value of Radio button in Dialog Component

    I am working is a dialog component trying to determine the selected value of a radio button.
    I thought this was easy but the code is returning a null value when I test.
    The radio button is named "Auto_Calc"
    The radio button only has two choices, the stored value is either 'c1' or 'c2'
    What the heck am I missing here?

    If e.datasubmitted.Auto_Calc = "c1" then
    feetype = e.datasubmitted.feetype
    autocalc = e.datasubmitted.autocalc
    tbdshare = e.datasubmitted.tbdshare
    if autocalc = .T. then
    permitfee = GetDialogPermitFee(mycitycode,myvaluation,feetype)
    e._set.TBD_Share.value = Convert_type(permitfee,"N")*tbdshare
    else
    e._set.TBD_Share.value = Convert_type(permitfee,"N")*tbdshare
    end if

    else

    Get rid of the If statment and put in a debug(1) Then explore the e object and see what is actually in there.

    ETA, I mean "comment out" the if statment

        Thanks, already checked that. I just checked it again, it's null

          I just did this, same result
          debug(1)
          testvalue = e.datasubmitted.Auto_Calc
          If e.datasubmitted.Auto_Calc = "c1" then

            If you are doing an ajax callback you may need the new data submitted instead of datasubmitted. Maybe this thread will help you out.

              Thanks, I'll take a look and it is an ajax callback

                Re: Capture value of Radio button in Dialog Component

                OK, here's the really weird part. I have this control set to a default value of "C2". I have been testing by selecting the first choice "C1". When I change the radio button, it returns a NULL value. But if I don't change the radio button and allow the default then the e.datasubmitted.Auto_Calc returns the default value of "C2".
                I'll look into this some more and if I find a solution I'll let you know.

                  Sounds like something is messed up under the "choices" property....possibly.

                    Re: Capture value of Radio button in Dialog Component

                    Looks Like my last post didn't. I found the problem, I just not sure why it's happening.
                    The radio button is triggers a show/hide expression on a frame, hiding some controls based on the user selection.
                    The frame above is inside another frame containing a repeating row section. The first field inside the repeating row section has a lookup with a edit combo box.
                    The onchange event on this edit combo box calls a locale xbasic function.
                    When this event is triggered, it clears all the value from the radio control. This is why the e.submitdata is returning a NULL value, because it is.
                    So now I have to find out why the event is clearing the radio buttons.

                      Re: Capture value of Radio button in Dialog Component

                      Just a thought but are the radio buttons bound to a table? If not, you could give that a try and see if it works. I had a problem that wasn't quite the same but similar. I had a checkbox that showed a repeating section when it was checked. Initially, it was unbound but I ended up having to add an extra logical field to my table and bind it for it to work the way I wanted.

                          No, it not bound to anything. I just using it as a programing switch. If this then that else the other.
                          I'll probably do a work around. If e.datasubmitted <> to "C2" then this will go were I want when the "C2" choice is not selected (I hope).
                          I haven't tested this yet. If this doesn't work out, I may have to redesign how the process functions.
                          Thanks for your help. If I discover some quarky thing with Alpha, I'll share it.

                            UPDATE: I tried a number of things, moved the radio button control around the page among other things. Finally I deleted the radio control and put it back in with another name. Used the same selections with stored values. When I tested everything worked. Go figure. There was some fragment of code somewhere that was resetting the value of the old radio button control. After re-installing, the problem stopped.
                            Thanks for you interest and your help.
