Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Slider - getValue - Invalid expression: convert_number(""%2Bconvert_type(0..100,"N")

    I setup a slider. Gave it a high & low range. Checked the two value property. Defaulted it to "0..10". Min val = 0; max val = 10. Gave it a step of 1. Show slider message set to {valuestart} - {valueend}. And when I call "getValue", it returns 'Invalid expression: convert_number(""%2Bconvert_type(0..100,"N"))'.

    What?!

    Hi Sarah,

    Where have you used the expression: convert_number(""%2Bconvert_type(0..100,"N"))?

      Re: Slider - getValue - Invalid expression: convert_number(""%2Bconvert_type(0..100,"

      Hi Sarah,
      I downloaded your component and I'm playing with it right now (ah...uhm...that didn't come out right) Anyway, it appears to be the default value that is the problem. If you comment out your code in onRenderComplete but then put the same method in a control it will give you the same error....UNTIL you move the slider. Then it will show what you have the slider set to and the result will be something like "3..8"

      If you change your onRenderComplete event to look like this:

      Code:
      {dialog.Object}.setValue('ASDF','0..10');
      alert({dialog.object}.getValue("asdf"));
      It will work without issue.
      There has to be a bug where the initial value setting messes up the type or something.

      So, the workaround seems to be using the method to set the default value instead of using the property of the control.

          I got a RE: from Alpha telling me that I cannot set the Default Value for a slider control using "Default Value" in the form "1..10" or pick your favorite numbers. Contrary to the videos! http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...logSlider2.swf

            You sure can use it! It just won't work with the get.Value until after you've moved it.

            Anyway, you can just use the workaround I found.

              Hi Jinx,

              So what you are saying is that Sarah does not need a separate alert message?

                I think she was just using that for testing.
                What I'm saying is that if you use: {dialog.Object}.setValue('ASDF','0..10'); instead of setting 0..10 in the initial value of the control in the properties section, it will work.

                  Thanks for the workaround. But I am totally not confident that is a viable solution as I've used setValue and I still get that error on some of my controls. Alpha recommended I set the value like so:

                  Code:
                  var ele = {dialog.object}.getControl('asdf');
                  ele.setValue([0,10]);
                  I have so many rage monkeys this week.

                    The alert was displaying the result of {dialog.object}.getValue('asdf'). I was not using it for testing anything. Just demonstration of the value.

                      Yeah, I only tested the {dialog.Object}.setValue('ASDF','0..10'); on your one control in that test component so it's possible it won't work everywhere. It's strange that if it works once, it won't keep working though.

                        Between initial post and response, I also wrote a function to get the value and give me what I want, even if that value is totally screwy:
                        Code:
                        var unfuckit = function (sliderId)
                        {
                            var initial = {dialog.object}.getValue(sliderId);
                            var final = "";

                            if (initial.search("Invalid expression")) {

                               // Invalid expression: convert_number(""%2Bconvert_type(*number here*,"N"))
                               var re = /\d+\.\.\d+/i;
                               final = initial.match(re);

                            } else {
                                final = initial;
                            }

                            return final;
                        }

                          Would've probably been better to use the conventional foo (or fu) and bar for your two variables within the function though....It would have shown more congruity....

                              WOW. After being told that, and I quote, "you cannot set the default value of the slider by setting the 'default value' property", I went through and deleted all my default values for my multi-value sliders. Guess what you get if you DON'T set the defaults for your multi-value slider...
