Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: How do i attach image gallery to each record on a grid?

    Hello Mike,

Thanks a lot for your explanation and support.
I have watched these videos severally but keep having issues with the xbasic.
This is largely due to my limited knowledge writing code.
Infact, uploading the images like u suggested above is also posing serious challenge coz of the xbasic code required.
I think my problem is with the xbasic(Pls recommend a book or videos on xbasic for me plssssss).
However, i believe a sample app would help like u earlier suggested.

Just FYI, I am also a beta tester for v12 just in case you wanna point me to some directions.
    Thanks a lot.

The first place I would recommend you look at is Using Xbasic with SQL Tables. A great resource for working with databases using Xbasic. It's filled with examples and videos.

Next I found a pdf on alphasoftware.com titled Learning Xbasic that's a little old but still valid.

You will also want to frequently refer to the wiki Reference section to see examples of Xbasic Functions and Methods.

If you still need a book, Liberty Manuals just came out with a new one titled Xbasic Toolbox. I haven't purchased it yet, but I have their older version and I found it most helpful.

Give me a few days and I will recreate the inventory application and send it to you.

        Hello Mike,

Thanks a lot for the recommended items.
In the mean time, i think a copy of the grid components for ur inventory, IGC, and List Control (Image uploads) should just be fine for me.
        Thank you.

            Abiodun,

Here's a link to a sample inventory app. I included a ms access database to help get you started. View the readme.txt file.

This is just a quick sample app and you will need to make modification before using it. I think you may still have issue with the application you want to create until you learn a bit more Xbasic coding.

            Good luck.

            Mike

                  Peter,

I agree with you. I prefer building an image gallery instead of using the IGC. I love the list control!!!

                      Thanks a lot Peter.
I am currently exploring your suggestions. Meanwhile, I had issues re-activating my ALpha 12 with the new licence but that has just been resolved now.
Do you have some specific videos of List control that you might want to refer me to?
I believe I will arrive to my destination with your solution.

Mike, thanks a lot for your sample application as well. I am seriously struggling with it coz of my limited knowledge of xbasic. Thanks a lot all the same.

                      Thanks.

                        Hello Biodun, Naija boy!

I'm doing something similar on a real estate application. Logged in users would upload their properties and each property would have several pictures. Take a look at the attached template which I hope would be helpful to you. Cheers.
