Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Need some help with posting calculated data and refresh calculated data

    I am attaching the project and screenshot.

    I am kind of stuck at two things...

    I have following tables & Set

    TABLES
    1) master (primary table)
    2) products
    3) package

    SETS
    1) Master ("products" is linked to "master" with PID and it is one to many link, and "package" is linked with ID to "products" with one to many links.)

    What I could not figure out.
    1) Refresh Calculated data on a different table when there are some specific data chance on parent table.
    I have some products "INV" as individuals and some products with PKG which is made up of INV products. So what I do is add those product in "package" tables (figure B). The problem I am having is: say if I made a price change in "products" table it does not update the "package" table. I know alpha five automatically cannot do that. So I added a "Refresh" button and by clicking on this I would like to update the pricing information.

    2) Post calculated data to parent table
    After building the package sets I have created calculated fields (block C) to see the total value of package item. What I would like to do is to be able to post "with a button" these calculated data to item table to that item.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

        Hi Mark,
        Your example seems to be like an assembly whereby the cost of the items would be marked up in the final product. So product would either have its own markup and price fields which are based on the total cost of the items assembled, or you calculate the markup at the default item level - which would need another table. It doesn't make sense to post that price back to the package items which is where the base cost comes from. If the cost of the items changes then a repost to products should update the product->price field. Is this what you are trying to accomplish?

        Code:
        MASTER.SET
        master
        |==>product
               |-->items
               |==>package
                       |-->items

          Re: Need some help with posting calculated data and refresh calculated data

          Hi:

          Actually the package pricing does not come from the top browse. What I am trying to do is following:

          1) In block A I will be defining the price of the component/individual items, and the package sku will be empty.
          2) Block B is where I make the connection and calculate (C) the package pricing.
          3) Now, I would click "Post Pricing to Product Table" then the calculated pricing would be posted to the package sku.

          4) Now when price change happens on an individual sku I would like (block B) the "Refresh" to reload the pricing which will give me the updated pricing for package skus. And, "Post Pricing to Product Table" button will post the new pricing to that package skus.

          Maybe there is a better way of doing this?

            Re: Need some help with posting calculated data and refresh calculated data

            I would start with a default list of unique items. From there you pick an individual item for your product table or you create a package of individual items and add that to your product list for the master. The default item is where the cost and markup would be set to get the price for the product.

              Mark, for the sake of your example and explaining how to alter values in one browse line from another browse..
              Where you calculate the package costings for each INV item and total into the Calc fields, the "Post Pricing" button could have the following code.
              Code:
              control_browse1:retail.value=Totalretail.value
              control_browse1:cost.value=Totalcost.value
              control_browse1:freight.value=Totalfreight.value
              The approach however is very IFFY - if the operator is focused on an INV item and press the button then the SKU items price would be changed, to whatever values are in the calc fields.. possibly zero.

              If "2000 - test" represents an order, and "items" the items from items table, you want to calculate the packaging costs base on each item ?
              One approach could be to add the packaging costs in three additional fields in the items table?
              But is that the actual stock table? Both browses lookup the same sku.

              You may want to discuss your objective here.
