Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    An error has occurred...

I have just installed V12, went to the UX and used one of the Alpha Genies to build a dialog just so I could see what it would look like but I get a message:

    Script Error
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
    Line: 535
    Char: 1
    Error: 'A5' is undefined
    Code: 0
    URL: a5resjavascript/a5.js

To reiterate, I haven't done anything, all I have done is go to New-UX-Customers Simple and then clicked Working Preview.

Anyone else run into this? I do have V11 on this same PC.

    Re: An error has occurred...

John - I just tried exactly what you describe, with no problem.

Do you have any other information?

Can you build a UX without the genie?

Do you have the latest patch or a very old version?

      Hi Steve,

Thanks for replying. I have the latest version (just downloaded it). I tried the genie again with no luck and then built one w/out the genie - just adding 3 fields, then clicked Working Preview and I got the exact same error.

Other information: I have V11 on the same PC and it's on Windows 8

No, I can't build a UX with or without the Genie and I'm assuming V12 will make heavy use of UX?

I also get the same error when trying to create a Grid.

I have the latest patch, just d/l it this am.

I'd like to start with it because I have a customer asking about a phone application but doesn't look like I'm going to be able to. It does play nicely with Version 11 right?

      -John

          Hi Lance,

I downloaded the most recent updates (as far as I know) this morning but the problems remain. 4054 1016 is the version I have. I can't a simple grid to work, once I try to do a Working Preview it displays the error message, then a slew of similar messages, and then it shows the grid but if I try to move to the next page I again get the slew or error messages.

What happens if you do a live preview and if you do a live preview outside of A5 e.g; in a normal browser window ? Smells like an IE issue.

If your running 64 bit try this... I'm surprised more people are not talking having trouble with Displaying pages on A5V12
I installed mine on Zebra Host.. but is running in 64bit after being accused of being a newbie by alpha support and that I should seek mentoring..
here is what I did.. Deleted all references in Registry to A5 v12 // uninstalled v12 / then I noticed that if chose the default installation it will install the Developer Version in
[ c:\\ Programs (86)a5v12 ... then when you install the patch.. it installs by default to c:\programs\a5v12.. but there must be references missing to run in 64 bit..

FIX: when installing Alpha in 64 bit || change the default installation to C:\Programs\a5v12 ..it will automatically put the 32 bit files in the x(86) file.. then install the patch to
              the default directory

when you start up A5 V12.. it will ask you to activate your license again.. ( this is why it was necessary to delete the Registry reference.)

Good Luck.. works fine for me..
