Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    alphabet buttons and additive query

was wondering if anyone has accomplished this. I have a set of alphabet buttons on a form, and clicking one filters by the vendor name.
what i'd like to do, is then use another set of alphabet buttons to then filter on an item id or item description field. (or possible some other means to accomplish this on a touch screen tablet)

when I tried it, I either get the vendor name OR the item, but i'd like to have the vendor AND the item filtered.

    just wondering.

    Gary
You can apply a base query to the first selection
or use a statement with .and. for the second query

Attach a simplified example including the two alphabet supercontrols as you have them now.
I will try return a practical example.

ok, there's a simple form in the zip.
in the first row of buttons, I want to click "w".
in the 2nd row, I want to click within "a-C"
I only want vendors starting with "w" and a description starting with "C"

Re: alphabet buttons and additive query

Gary you have a saved query button on the product form
Check the attached - it asks for supplier and Product and then filters for both conditions
you do this by selecting "Add condition" to your first, change THAT to AND condition and get your ask variable for product in the same way

So it appears that you havent tried using the Alphabet SC .
I asked for what you have attempted so far and helped with that - and it was not Alphabet SC.
When you do, follow the same method used with the ask variables - then if you're jammed, send what you have.

the alphabet controls are at the bottom of the form. that's all i know how to do with it. one is set for vendor and one is set to description. don't know how to make the one set for description use the vendor filter. when i select a button for the description, it doesn't use the vendor filter, it clears it and just filters by description.

Re: alphabet buttons and additive query

I didn't see that far down where the alphabuttons were. Way off my notebook screen.
Not finding access into the buttons Xdlg code nor the choice, I worked out a method to enable button search 1 .and. button search 2
Study the example of the method I eventually used.
You can select one button filter and "lock" it before selecting the a button on the other row of buttons, which will .AND. the selection with the first.

So if you can't see it it doesn't exist?
Try that with the Inland Revenue!
