Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Tabbed Object Desktop Question

I am a long time MS Access developer and MSACC also has tabbed objects to allow you to put more fields on a form and to organize them. I noticed that A5 does also, but I cant find the flexibility I have in MS..I can hide/deactivate particular tabs on MS, but cant find that feature on A5. I want to hide/show tabs based on user entries from other fields. (I want to show tabs that relate to the type of data they are entering..

    Any help would be appreciated.

You could use conditional objects as well. Depending on a variable, different layers of the conditional object would appear or not. You can even make it look like a tabbed object.

for instance each layer has a name and one is a and another is b
if variable gets set to a then that layer appears, or if the var gets set to be the other layer appears, or if blank then a blank gets show(of course with nothing)

Keith, I don't think you can easily do this in Access.

There are Tabs within Tabs so to speak. Just more ideas to confuse you.

Ted - "Everybody's dumb about somethin'. Can't you think of anything you're dumb about?" - Will Rodgers (circa 1930's) His comment was in response to someone criticizing someone else.

Another one, when someone said "He's an injun', ain't he?" - "Now John, everyone's an Indian from somewhere, it's jest that most of us are runnin' around on someone else's territory." Rodgers was a full blood Cherokee. He was also nominated to run for president in 1930 sdomething.

            Hey Martin!

I wasn't criticizing at all. I didn't know that you could have tabs within tabs until a well known member of the Forum asked for a bit of assistance privately.
That's when I think I went at least 4 deep with Tabs. So I thought I'd share the concept.

Anyway, while we are on "sayings" - "don't squat with your spurs on!" and "never smack a man chewin' tobacco!"

Sorry - I didn't think you were - only remarking on you saying at the bottom. I really liked the picture with tabs in different places.

I've got a hospital app where there is a different conditional object for each treatment type - about 100. Each of the conditionals have different embedded browses (on the same tables) for each of the 100 types, showing different fields in the embedded browse.

Believe it or not, it works!! and has been working since 2004, in V5, although is now in V10.

As a lot of people already know, you can have conditional objects within conditional objects. I have one cd where there is a cd on it and a cd on that one.

Conditional objects are almost the same as tabs, except you have a lot more flexibility with conditional objects.
