Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Populate A Dialog with data from one or more tables .. about as useful as a pet rock

Re: Populate A Dialog with data from one or more tables .. about as useful as a pet r

Just curious, has anyone had success placing a UX inside of an a5w page and calling that a5w page for one specific record? This very easy to do with normal grids that are placed inside of a page layout component using arguments (page variables, for example) but I have had no luck doing the same with a UX.

Is this a limitation on the UX? Can the UX be placed inside of an a5w page and called for a unique record? This is what is making me pull my hair out.

I do not want to use modal/modeless windows. I want the UX to be presented inside of an a5w page.

Do videos D10 and D11 offer what you want? Caution: these a bit old and the interface has evolved since then, but the methods and principles are still the same.

Those videos don't address what I'm trying to accomplish or even find out if it is possible.

Both of those videos talk about how to add data but not how to open the UX for a specific record.

I have not seen any place where Alpha indicates if the UX can be placed inside of an a5w page and called for a specific record using arguments or page variables.

Again, if Alpha is not going to provide decent documentation it would be nice if they could at least clarify if this is possible.

Videos D20 and D26 might be what you want then. We do it all the time, just implemented another one today.

Re: Populate A Dialog with data from one or more tables .. about as useful as a pet r

              Steve,

I've watched D20 multiple times and as I've mentioned before, their use of the 'SpecifyNow' really does not help when one wants to use a variable instead. The problem with D20 is that it does not elaborate on the use of a variable. I've tried using page variables and arguments and no luck. So what exactly does 'ReadFromVariable' mean? What variable? How exactly do we setup this variable?

And none of the videos answer my question on whether or not you can call a UX that is inside an a5w page for a specific record.

When you say you do this all the time, do you mean you are calling a UX that is inside an a5w page for a specific record? Or do you mean you calling the UX for a specific record inside of a pop up window?

I can call the UX inside of a window but that is not what I want. I do not want a pop up, I want it inside an a5w page and that is what is causing the grief.

              Thanks!

                Hello Jose,

I do this all the time as well. See if this video doesn't help you get going.

                  Jim,

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!

                  That worked!

I'm sure this will be helpful to others that may want to do the same. This is EXACTLY what Alpha should have done instead of using hard code id's in their video. I hope they consider this in future videos.

                  Thanks!

                    Jose and Jim,

Thank you very much for asking this and answering it. It has stymied me for a couple of days now.
