Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Keith,

The rule I follow when writing xbasic scripts is easy. Every variable will be local to the script unless declared otherwise in the script itself.

Re: Capture Image file name as variable?

Many thanks to your both for the clarification on the use of variables. I'm sure I will get confused again. Hay ho.

I hope Gabe gets back OK now,
I will be back in the evening if you haven't figured it out.
Does this mean he won't be back, now that I have got it figured out? I do hope not. Anyway, how would he know if he doesn't come back?

      Ain't English wonderful?

Re: Capture Image file name as variable?

I be back and I is glad you figured it out..
        But..
Was your original intention to put the path in the variable? Or the image itself?
You could load the image in a blob variable..but you dimmed the variable as C !
Thus, I had no idea what you wanted or what was the subsequent steps and thought you wanted the path since you dimmed the variable as C.
At any rate..and speaking of rate, if your client changes their logo this often..make sure you get paid in advance! Something fishy here unless they are in the fishing business.
And secondly, I do not understand the logic..If they change the logo, why don't you keep everything as is and overwrite the logo image with the new one?

        P.S.
It is not evening but I decided to have a short day today.

              Hi Allen,

Just a quick update. After a bit of digging around I finally got your code to work in my application.

It is very clean and does the job. I'm sure my customer will be very impressed.

                  Allen

                  A really good contribution.
What I would find really useful is to store not only the logo but also the customer name address, telephone etc, company reg and Vat number.
And then on all the reports i.e. invoices, purchase orders, etc point to the details and the logos stored in the table.

Then all I need to do is enter the customer details once and all his layouts are done

                  Is this feasible?

                  Kind Regards

Re: Capture Image file name as variable?

We keep an "Agency" table with our name, address, phone, etc. Then on database init (autoexec script), load the values from the table into global variables and use them on all forms, reports, letters, etc. The logo could be loaded as a blob variable, or when the forms and reports are designed, assign a filename identifying the logo jpg or bmp, or whatever to load into a bitmap object on them.

That is exactly what the demo sales app does.
