Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to run a Stored Proc on Dialog Component for the Desktop

    I want to run a stored procedure hat updates certain fields in related table when I save a sales transaction in an invoice table. the stored procedure has a parameter like ItemId, when the Sales_details has been saved in a Dialog Component for the desktop then I want to put a button to execute that stored procedure. How do I do this? The database is sql Server 2012 express. Thanks!

    Did you search the forum or documentation for stored procedure?

    I'm pretty sure the answers to your questions are in a forum thread from earlier this week.

      Found some but it is not clear if the answer is the one, I will try to do some suggestions on other threads if it works. Is there a Book specifically for web desktop components aside from the videos?

        You're looking to do an Ajax Callback from the button, which will call an XBasic function that has your stored procedure call. There's 3 things here:
        1) The stored procedure:
        -Either you've already created this or you can Google how to do it in MS SQL Server. Either way, that's something you'll do outside of Alpha.
        2) The Ajax Callback:
        -Go to the onClick event in the button's properties
        -Click "Add New Action", then "Ajax Callback"
        -Choose your settings and enter a function name (e.g. myFunction)
        -Click on the "Create function prototype link". Click "Copy to Clipboard".
        -Click the "Open XBasic function declarations". Paste.
        3) The XBasic function:
        -You're already there, or you can OK and Save your way out and in the Component properties on the left (where you switch from Grid to Detail View, etc), you can click "XBasic Functions".
        -Look at the default comments in the prototype--there's lots of info there. You'll end up with something like this:
        Code:
        myFunction as C (e as p)

        dim cn as sql::connection
        cn.Open("::Name::MyNamedConnection")
        dim args as sql::arguments

        args.set("arg1",e._currentRowDataNew.MyFieldName)
        cn.Execute("EXEC MyStoredProcedure(:arg1)",args)

        myFunction = alert('Hooray');

        end function

          Thank you very much Chris! I think this is the one that I am looking for, I already have a stored procedure that I created in MS SQL Server, and I want to execute it after saving the data on the invoice_header and invoice_details. the stored proc is just used to update some fields in related tables with an input parameter that depends on the invoice no. which is used to update other fields on related tables. Thanks very much! I will be trying this and update this post.Thanks tnx and tnx!
