Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

UX & GRID: PREVIEW & WORKING PREVIEW are missing images, LIVE PREVIEW works fine

    Argh.

I know A5 is a RAD tool and it's supposed to save me time, but I find myself constantly stopped but stupid @#$@ that would be crazily obvious in Visual Basic or C# or damn near any ordinary language. In this case it is the obfuscation of image locations when in the designer.

When I'm in the designer for a UX component or a GRID component many, most, or all of my images will NOT display in the PREVIEW or WORKING PREVIEW tabs.

No images in PREVIEW or WORKING PREVIEW

Oddly, they will display just fine in the LIVE PREVIEW tab and in the app once it is posted.

Images are just fine in LIVE PREVIEW or when posted to the webserver.

I had the reverse problem once before (displaying in Preview/Working-Preview but not in Live-Preview) and sorted it out by moving copies of images under my project directory.

Perhaps this has something to do with the [PathAlias.ADB_Path], but I have no idea what (and yes, I've looked a several related links on the Forum).

I've moved images around, build A5W pages to display the alias, etc. But the bottom line is that these images were added directly to the project and exist in the project directory in the appropriate sub-directory and are copied to the A5Webroot directory automatically.

It's got to be something stupidly simple. So simple that it isn't easily found with a search. Or in a help menu.

Any input/direction will be appreciated. Thanks.

      Eddie,

I did ultimately find a solution. That goes back over a year so I might be a bit fuzzy
      on the details.

In the directory that holds my actual project I have a substantial number of GIF, JPG,
and PNG files that I like to select from. These can be added through the A5v12 builder
interface (add them one by one). In the end however, they will simply be copied to
the same place in your project directory where your components are stored:
      • where you find component files (ending in ".a5wcmp")
      • typically named "<your path>\Default.WebProject"

What I found was that the act of "publishing" did not always copy all the images to
the webserver directory (e.g. "C:\A5Webroot"), even if I told it to publish everything
of all types and after clearing any prior publishing history.

My app is called "Zipics" and it is set to have its own directory. So my actual
      webserver directory looks like this:
      C:\A5Webroot
      |
      |-- \LivePreview
      |
      |-- \Zipics

What I had to do was manually copy all the images from my project
directory to EACH of the above subdirectories
      (LivePreview & Zipics).

Then I restarted the webserver, cleared the cache in all my browsers,
      and launched my apps.

      This worked.

      Annoying... but it worked.

      Regards,

      Allan

Re: UX & GRID: PREVIEW & WORKING PREVIEW are missing images, LIVE PREVIEW works fine

Thanks for the info. I done that before but i wasn't sure that is the right way bypassing the bug/problem. For now i fixed the Live Preview problem. My server had IE9 also I had v11 WAS installed on my server. I removed that and upgraded my IE to IE11 and uninstalled /reinstall my v12, that fixed the LivePreview problem. But i am still having a problem with WorkingPrevew.
