Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Image Upload Suggestions Wanted

    I am using the html5 actionscript to access the camera on my mobile devices. Instead of displaying the image which can become unwieldy I'd like to have some time of image or text be displayed notifying the user once the image blob field is made dirty. Has anyone done anything like this that is willing to share their solution? I've tried using a show/hide expression where if image <> "" display image or text but the control is always shown. Any help is appreciated!

    Hey Josh,

    Just to understand a bit more... why unwieldy?

    The process is:

    Click a button (for example)
    Get access to your device images
    Select one
    Have that image displayed in the data bound Image Control (in any size you'd like)
    Click Submit to upload and save that image in your data table

    Are your images really large? How long does it take to have them display?

    While you're waiting for the Image control to become dirty... what would you be doing?

      David,

      This is inside of a repeating section and the size of the image varies. What is happening is that the image is pushing the new row/record button in the repeating section so that it's out of sight. I know I can place the data bound image in a container to control the size of the image, the biggest problem is that the image sizes can vary and the snapshot of the image at a fixed size may confuse the user into thinking that the actual image captured was not appropriate. It just seemed like it would be a cleaner solution to find another way to make the user aware that the image is ready to be uploaded. I think the issue I am running into with the show/hide functions...I think Alpha is making the ux component dirty in order to allow for an image to be uploaded before saving the record. Do you think it would be best to just display the image at a fixed size?

        Josh,

        Have a look at this and see if it's what you were needing. It was interesting from several aspects because I'm not sure if a simple show/hide would accomplish what I think you needed. I also had to consider what would happen if you cancelled the upload process. There's lots of other stuff that could be done here, but these are the basics.

          David,

          This is what I was imagining. Thanks for taking the time to throw that together. Much appreciated

            There was some code not in view in the video... here is the relevant code...

            afterAjaxCallbackComplete
            Code:
            var currRow = {dialog.Object}.getInstanceNumber('image1');
            if ($('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.IMAGE1_HIDDENA5FN_A5INSTANCE'+currRow).value.length > 0) {
            	$('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.IMAGE_1_A5INSTANCE'+currRow).style.visibility="visible";
            	}

            Submit : Click event
            Code:
            var rptCnt = {dialog.Object}._getRepeatingSectionRowCount('CONTAINER_2');

            for (var i=1;i<rptCnt+1;i++){
            	$('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.IMAGE_1_A5INSTANCE'+i).style.visibility="hidden";
            	}

            {dialog.object}.submit();
