Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Show Hide Button in Panel Header based upon active panel in UX Component

    I am trying to set a show hide expression for a button in the panel header

    The following code successfully shows the active pane in an alert

    var var1 = {dialog.object}.panelGetActive('PANELNAVIGATOR_1');
    alert(var1);

    What I am lacking is the code for the show/hide. Everything I have tried throws up and error.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Greg

    Re: Show Hide Button in Panel Header based upon active panel in UX Component

    Hi Greg,

    What I have done (not specifically in panels) is create a control that is logical/number hidden ... set the value of that to what you need it to be. Then I put the thing I wanted to show/hide in a container and set the client side show hide to be based on that. Make sure you click the 'Prevent Float' checkbox to hide the container without stuff moving around!

    Here's a pic that might help?

      Hey Phil

      Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the panels in the mobile development make things a bit more tricky. I hide buttons all the time using similar code to what you suggested, but trying to write the javascript to hide/show button based on active panel is not as easy for me....hopefully somebody much wiser than myself will be able to help. Mobile development is definitely a bit trickier than regular components.....I guess because it is all so new to me

      Thanks again

        Re: Show Hide Button in Panel Header based upon active panel in UX Component

        Greg,

        Specifically... what are you basing the show/hide on? What is your expression?

        And... you want to set a show/hide expression for a button in "the" panel header. PanelCard Header? PanelLayout Header? PanelNavigator Header?

          Re: Show Hide Button in Panel Header based upon active panel in UX Component

          Hi David.....you are right, I should have been more detailed!

          Anyways, I was able to finally solve it with the following code:

          function isShown(activepanel){

          var activepanel = {dialog.object}.panelGetActive('PANELNAVIGATOR_1');

          if(activepanel=='INFORMATION') {
          return true;
          } else {
          return false;
          }

          }
          Then I put isShown(activepanel) in the hide/show client side property for the button. Works perfectly now.

          Thanks for your efforts.
          Greg

            I wanted to show/hide a menu choice that is in a panel navigator header with this concept and found it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

              Re: Show Hide Button in Panel Header based upon active panel in UX Component

              I know this is a slightly older thread, but nothing else matches this subject, and worth continuing.

              I'm trying a Client Side Show/Hide expression for a container that doesn't work:

              Code:
              dialog.activePanelId <> 'PANELCARD_1'
              This container should then show up in all other panels, but it does not. Anyone know why?

              And, yes, I've tried using .activePanelName as well - no difference.

                Re: Show Hide Button in Panel Header based upon active panel in UX Component

                You have several PanelCards and each PanelCard has a Container containing controls. On each Container, in the Client-Side Show/Hide Property, you have the expression as posted. In my test UX the Container in PANELCARD_1 and it's controls are hidden. In PANELCARD_2 AND PANELCARD_3 the Container and their controls are shown. Post a sample UX.

                  Thanks David. I should clarify now that I see I left this out: The container I want to hide is in my last panel, which I have set as a Sub-type of PanelFooter. I'll bet that's the complication here.

                    Steve, you'll need to provide a simple UX example of this behaviour. There are too many options and settings to guess at.
