Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Struggling with UX Image Upload Component

    Hi,

I am still an alpha newbie here. What I am trying to do is simply upload an image file to a directory on my server and capture a filename to include in a sql table. In v11 I could do this just fine in the Grid component, however at this stage I really want to be able to do this directly in a UX component.

I have the Image control and the button with the onclick action javascript for Image Upload - it is all exactly the same. Only difference is the Image control is now C instead of I (can't seem to find a way to choose Image Reference Field in the UX component - is this correct?).

I am not scaling the image. I am leaving the default allowed image extensions and max image size the same. I have tried putting both an absolute path and a relative path in the Upload Folder field. I have tried both using a transformation expression and leaving that field blank. No matter what I do, or what type of image I upload and submit in the UX, I always get "images/null_1x1.png.a5image" as the data for the Image field and nothing gets added to the directory in the server. Does anyone have any ideas why this would be happening?

I've watched the videos for both data binding and non data binding image upload for the UX component but neither show how to upload the actual image file to the server - only working with binary data. Can anyone summarize what the key differences are? If I were to do data binding with a binary field, would a browser be able to display that image after retrieving the binary data from the table?

Thank you very much for your help.

Re: Struggling with UX Image Upload Component

    Hi Carl,

I am doing the same thing myself, so let's see if I can help you with this.
I'm using a data-bound image control called IMAGE1 on the UX component to hold my image.

    Image Control.jpg

The IMAGE1 field is bound to a character field called PARTPHOTO in my database which holds the location of the image file.

    Binding.jpg and Data Binding 2.jpg

I use a button on the UX component to initiate the image upload.

    Upload Button.jpg

In the button's Javascript OnClick event, I have defined the Action Javascript Event to upload the image to a network folder called T:\Alpha5\Photos.

    Image Upload Action.jpg

I think that should do it.

This is what the component looks like when it is rendered in the browser:

Re: Struggling with UX Image Upload Component

Thanks Stephen. I appreciate the effort. However, unfortunately, I still can't get it to work. I followed your screenshots exactly. I tried it both in my web application and on my localhost. I tried within the UX component I have been working with and on a brand new UX component with only the Image upload functionality. No matter what, the image does not upload to the server folder and the image field returns "images/null_1x1.png.a5image" instead of the name of the image file. The image, however, shows up fine on the UX component itself. I triple checked to make sure I was following your screenshots exactly. Clearly, I am doing something wrong but I can't figure out what. The only thing I can think of is the upload folder, since that is obviously different than yours. If this was incorrect, would this cause the image not to upload anywhere and for the Image character field to return "images/null_1x1.png.a5image"? Do you know what it means when the image field is "images/null_1x1.png.a5image"?

        Thanks again for your help.

Carl, I am having this same problem... did you ever get it resolved? I am only trying to get the image into a server folder.
