Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Using a Variable to select which button in setting font colour on button on a form

    Hello

    I know that this has been covered before but do not know where / what to search

    I need to change the font colour on a button on a form when another button is pressed using a variable for the button number and a variable for the colour

    I now how to do this for a fixed button -> parentform:Button21.font.color = newcolour (newcolour is a Global variable set in autoexec)

    My problem is how to change this so a variable decides which button is changed

    I have a character variable (Butnum) holding the button number (It will be a fixed format with no spaces)

    Thank You

    Dave

    Open the properties toolbox with the form in design mode.
    Click on the button.
    Open the Properties Font and select Dynamic for color
    Put you condition for each color that must display

      I am looking at a touch screen program when a sub button is pressed then the master button needs to be de selected (Selection is shown by font colour)

      I need to solve this using a xbasic command when the sub button is pressed then master button font colour is reset

        The object explorer will readily reveal the commands you need.

        With your form in design mode use the View menu and choose Object Explorer.
        Note the object name of the "master button".
        Select that object in the Object Name list. Click on the + next to the Fill property to reveal the modifiable properties.
        Select one of those and use the Copy to Clipboard button and you will see the syntax for addressing the property like

        topparent:objectname.Fill.Color

        So the xbasic for the sub button onpush event would be

        topparent:objectname.Fill.Color = "yourcolorchoice"
        topparent:objectname.Accent_color = "youraccentcolorchoice"
        topparent:objectname.Fill.Style = "yourstylechoice"

        color.png
        There can be only one.

          This is what I am already doing - My problem is the objectname is not static but can be any one of 20 buttons. I have the objectname in a variable and need to modify the above to use a variable which was my orginal question.

          Thanks

            Dave,

            With the <OBJECT>.EVAL() method you should be able to solve the variable issue.

              dim po as p
              po=obj("topparent:"+yourbuttonstrvar)
              po.fill.color="blue"
              po.Accent_color = "purple" etc//

              This dynamically changes the colours of the button name attached to the variable yourbuttonstrvar
