Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Conditional Action Script

    Hi there. I have tried to make this work but I am doing something wrong.

    I am updating a field in another table but this update is conditional based on values in the current table. The condition is that if the same item is found in the current table and the one of the logical fields is false then the update should not take place.

    I'm have tried this: Po_Transactions->item_id = var_item_id .and. Po_Transactions->Completed = .t. where the var_item_id is the current records item_id.

    It needs to say. Go Find in the table the same item and if the PO_transaction->completed is true then run the script. I just don't know how the code that.

    thanks

    Re: Conditional Action Script

    Assuming you are working with native (DBF) tables, using xbasic code you could use the fetch_find() method of the TBL object to "find" the desired record, then your xbasic could use the change_begin() method of the TBL object to modify and commit the desired change.

    Here's a link to the fetch_find() discussion

    Do you know how to use the Change_begin() and Change_end() methods?

      Re: Conditional Action Script

      Hi Tom , Thanks for your quick reply.

      This is the code generated by the script genie. The update operation that it runs is working okay. I just need help with the conditional code. I want the script to look at the current table that I'm working on and then find duplicates of the same item, then evaluate a logical field in that record. Then the script must only run the operation if all of the logical fields for that specific item is TRUE. I think the expression that I have enter only looks at the current record.

      'Conditional code follows. Executes only if the condition expression is True.
      IF a5_eval_expression("=Po_Transactions->item_id = var_item_id .and. Po_Transactions->Completed = .t.",local_variables())
      'Run a saved 'Update' operation: 'on_order_false2'.
      'Check to see if you are running the script from within a Form
      dim flag_error as l
      flag_error = .f.
      if is_object(topparent.this) then
      p = topparent.this

      if eval_valid("P:Item_id.value") then
      DELETE Parameter1
      'Set the Parameter variable to the object's .value property
      Parameter1 = eval("P:Item_id.value")
      else
      flag_error = .t.
      end if
      else
      flag_error = .t.
      end if

      if flag_error then
      ui_msg_box("Error","Item_id does not exist. This script cannot be run in this context.",UI_STOP_SYMBOL)
      end
      end if

      filter = "item_id = [varN->parameter1]"
      query.filter = replace_parameters(filter,local_variables())
      query.order = ""

      DIM operation_name as c
      operation_name = "on_order_false2"
      If operation_name <> "" then
      update.run(operation_name,query.filter,query.order)
      End if

      END IF

        Re: Conditional Action Script

        You could probably do it with this as the condition expression.

        a5_get_records_in_query("Po_Transactions","item_id = "+quote(var_item_id)) = a5_get_records_in_query("Po_Transactions","item_id = "+quote(var_item_id)+".and. Completed")
        There can be only one.

          Hi Stan,

          Thanks for the reply. I have tried that and I must be doing something wrong. I tested it in the interactive window. When I change the variable to a constant I get the correct answer. As soon as I place the variable in the code then I get 0 for an answer. I'm puzzled. I have also tried using the tablecount() within if() function and same happens. The variables don' want to work.

          ?a5_get_records_in_query("Po_Transactions","item_id = "+quote("var_item_id")+".and. Completed")
          = 0

          ?a5_get_records_in_query("Po_Transactions","item_id = 4.and. Completed")
          = 1

          ?var_item_id
          = 4

          This is what happens if you con't place the variable in Quotes within the qoute() function

          ?a5_get_records_in_query("Po_Transactions","item_id = "+quote(var_item_id)+".and. Completed")
          ERROR: Argument is incorrect data type

            Re: Conditional Action Script

            If the variable is numeric data, you probably don't need to quote it.

            a5_get_records_in_query("Po_Transactions","item_id = var_item_id" + ".and. Completed")

              Re: Conditional Action Script

              If it is numeric I would go with

              a5_get_records_in_query("Po_Transactions","item_id = "+var_item_id + ".and. Completed")

              as I was assuming character or you could use

              a5_get_records_in_query("Po_Transactions","item_id = "+s_quote(var_item_id) + ".and. Completed")

              which should handle character or numeric.

              Note: Most don't use numerics unless they intend to perform math with them.
              There can be only one.
