Complex Calculation Help! Rounding Numbers

I am trying to figure out something. Spent sometime but could not locate appropriate functions to use.

I have a numeric field with 2 decimal: example:

grade1_price = 33.23
grade1_multiplier = 2.2
grade1_total = grade1_price * grade1_multiplier
grade1_round = THIS IS WHERE I AM STUCK

I would like to do following:
1) If the grade1_round is less than or close to $#50.## decimal (say: $146.89, $2447.76, $632.12 I would like it to be $149.99, $2449.99 and $649.99)
2) If the grade1_round is greater than 50 and less than $#100.## (say: $1256.60, $7689.00, $5463.87 I would like it to be $1299.99, $7699.99, and $5499.99)
3) If the grade1_round has .00 as decimal then leave the decimal as #00 and round up close to $#49.00 (if it is less than $#50) and round up to $#99.00 if it is greater than $#50 and less than $#100.00
EXAMPLE (Case 1: 345.00 should be 349.00 case 2: 1289.00 should be 1299.00)

You'll have to write your own function to accomplish that.


You'll need the str() function to change the numeric value to character.
You'll need the at() function to find the position of the decimal.
You'll want to evaluate the value of the two characters immediately before the decimal, probably using substr().

I am not sure I understand the above line?
You are saying, If the grade1_round is less than or close to $#50.## decimal
but the examples you provided do not match the assumption:
$146.89, $2447.76, $632.12
In the first 2, the decimal is >.50 and in the third it is less.
Can you clarify?
To make things rather more confusing to me, the following line says:

If the grade1_round is greater than 50 and less than $#100.## (say: $1256.60, $7689.00, $5463.87

Once again, the examples provided do not match the premise. And what's with the dollar signs?
Also, the verbosity "less than or close to" is rather non-technical.
Did you mean less than or equal to?

OK..disregard the above..I re-read your question and get what you want..
One last question, what is the smallest possible number?
Is it a single digit? double digit? what?

The only issue is if the field is null then it calculated 49.00 by default. I rather not have 49.00 by default. It may cause some reporting issue.

345.78 should be 349.99
678.98 should be 699.99

I didn't factor in numbers like 3.37
I will amend it sometime tomorrow. It's really way past bed time..
