Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Spell Checking for Web Applications

Does anyone have some good code for spellchecking information in web applications? Or maybe a third party app that will do it?

If not an A5 solution, perhaps one with JavaScript?

Are you just looking for spell check in a text area? I've found that most browsers actually do a pretty good job. More specifics if this isn't enough?

Specifically, the client asked me if I could add a spell checker, and I went looking for one instead of realizing that I don't really need one.

      Thanks for unclogging my brain!

Tell client you can add it for $$$. Let me know how much client agrees to -- I might boost my income knowing the market!

Re: Spell Checking for Web Applications

I have always experienced good results - spell check provided by the browser - just as Steve said above.

However, recently several of my users have brought to my attention that this USED to work on the Ipad but does not anymore.

I tried it. If you put spellcheck and autocorrection ON (in settings), you can click on a word and if there is an available correction, it will display. HOWEVER, the misspelled word is not underlined (it was in the past) so the user gets no feedback as to which words need correction. Thus, it really is unusable becausde no user would want to click on every word!

Does anyone have any advice on this?

Re: Spell Checking for Web Applications

I still have not really resolved this issue. On an ipad using Safari, the best I can get is turn auto=correct off and the Spellcheck on. Even then, though as I described above, incorrect words are not underlined and thus the user has no way of knowing there was a misspelled word. If they click the word, choices do appear, but without the underline, it is not useful. Interestingly, the spell check DOES work in other applications on the Ipad, like the mail program, but in my app.

So, I looked for another browser to recommend to my users. Dolphin DOES work - underlines misspelled words and the user touches the word and then selects an option. I have been recommending this to users for the past year or so. Unfortunately, it has been pointed out to me that Dolphin has other issues with my app -such as with the date picker - the user clicks the icon, and the calendar pops up very briefly and then closes before they can do anything. The date picker does work on Safari though. So, I have a conundrum.

I would actually like to stay with Safari, if possible, as everything else works well, except spell check, and it is the native browser for ios. So, I would really appreciate some help in resolving this.
