Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Countdown Timer

Hi Guys, I am trying to find a sample application I see on here a while back.
It's a Timer / Counter that changed the background colour as the seconds dropped below 10, then below 5 from what I remember.

Anyone see it on here ?

    Thanks

    Re: Countdown Timer

I built one that monitors dolphins' breathing, and turns the background red if no breath for one minute - you may have seen that. Here's a picture. Is this what you saw?

      Re: Countdown Timer

Hi Steve, no is was not this one. Looks a great looking application though I must say......
I am looking for something to count down seconds when players are taking their shots in Pool Matches.
Set Timer, Stop Timer, Start Timer, Reset Timer etc.
The background changed colour and an alarm bell sounded from what I remember.
Maybe your application does this too ?

      Best regards
      Fred

        Re: Countdown Timer

You could modify what I have here. But first I'd look around the web for some kind of timer for pool or chess players -- there must be couple out there.

We're in the desktop forum, so I'll note that most of what I have in mind would be written with javascript, but that can certainly run in a desktop environment.

Mike, I now need to add a (bleep) for every second the counter goes down from to 10 seconds to 1 second . Also I need to be able to Re-Start the counter too.
There is a short delay when I click the stop button which I need to address. I need the clock to stop instantly if at all possible.
Can you help here Mike ?

                    Thank you

What I'd suggested was that you find a javascript timer that would do the job for you. Mine is all javascript. You could also run this from a desktop app, and use AJAX callbacks to interact with your data. I didn't invent the basics of the timer I posted here -- I found a model and modified it to fit my needs.

Hi Steve, yes that is exactly what I am hoping to do, find something and modify it to suit. Our good friend Mike Wilson has created some script for me to look at which has given me some good idea's if I can modify the code to include some other options, but yes I am always looking for other useful samples to help me on my way in case you have something that may be helpful.
