Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Printing from form doesn't print current records

I have a form for filling out records in a set. This is a database for quoting jobs to customers. The set has a main table as Std_Quote and child tables of Std_quote_items which has a one to many link to a part number table. The main table also has a child of Contact and Company under that.

Anyway, on this form I have a button that calls up a report and prints a pdf and sends an email. It seems to work correctly except that it doesn't print the record that is on the form, it prints another one. I also noticed that when I do a browse on the SET that the top record happens to be the one that it prints. I have rebuilt the indexes but the browse that opens is not in any kind of order, even though it is always the same.

I do have the report set to use whatever records are on the form at the time.

So two questions if anyone can help based on this info.

1.) how do I get the default browse to be in a particular order
2.) how do I get my print command from my form to print only the records that are on the form.

I don't use Alpha very frequently so excuse me if I am missing something simple.

    Thanks

You don't. For a saved browse or a saved form you can set the record order in the properties. The default form or browse, no.

I do have the report set to use whatever records are on the form at the time.
What are you using to do that?
    There can be only one.

Re: Printing from form doesn't print current records

It's difficult to say conclusively without a copy of the database to review.

Your report must be based on the same set as the form.

You will have better results putting a button on your form to run your report, and then script the onPush event of the button using Action Scripting to print the report.

You should not be trying to "print the form" itself.

The order of records in the "default" browse cannot be set permanently. So, use the default browse as a pattern and create / save a custom browse. In the filtering and ordering properties of the custom browse layout you can set the desired ordering specifications and they will be honored each time the browse is opened.

        Stan,

I am using a button with a onpush event that prints a layout of the report that I have saved, I also have it sending an email.

          Tom,

I am using the button as you described.

I looked at the alphasports example on how they print the invoice, and it seems like mine is set basically like their sample, but the sample works fine.

            Tom and Stan,

thanks very much for your quick replies, but I it looks like I figured it out. In the action of the button event, at the very end the selection window comes up and I had no further selection picked, because I thought it would get it's selection because the print layout originally had to select current records, but I needed to check current record, and the it worked fine.

            Anyway, thanks again
