Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: MySQL Encryption (Fields in a table)

    This is an example of when someone clicks delete. I don't really delete the record, I just mark it delete:

    function onBeforeSQLCommandExecute as v (e as p)

    If Upper(e.sqlType) == "DELETE" then
    e.SQLCommandWasHandled = .t.
    Dim sql as c
    Dim args as sql::arguments
    args.add("DateDel",now())
    args.add("UserIdDel",session.UserID)
    args.add("ID",e.rv.V.R1.REFERRALS_ID)

    sql1 = "Update vReferrals set DateDel =:DateDel, UserIdDel = :UserIdDel where ([Referrals_ID] = :ID)"

    flag = e.cn.execute(sql1,args)
    If flag = .t. then
    e.flagError = .f.
    e.errorText = ""
    e.rowsAffected = e.cn.affectedRows()
    e.SQLToDisplay = sql1
    e.ArgsToDisplay = ""
    else
    e.flagError = .t.
    e.errorText = e.cn.callresult.text
    e.rowsAffected = 0
    end if
    end if

    end function

      Hi Richard,
      Take a look at the onBeforeSQLCommandExecute comments:

      'e.argsXML = The XML for the SQL::Arguments object with value for the arguments used in the statement
      'e.argsXML contains the argument values for the data that was submitted when the user clicked the submit button.
      'e.argsXML contains the new and old values for all fields on the Grid.
      'Note: To convert e.argsXML into a sql::arguments object you would do:
      ' dim myargs as sql::arguments
      ' myargs.xml = e.argXML

      You can then use args.find, args.set etc to operate on the args object

      and

      'If you want this event to modify the computed SQL command and/or arguments (but not actually execute the command) set these properties:
      'e.sqlModified = new SQL command that you want to execute
      'e.argsXMLModified = new Argument values (in XML format)
      'e.SQLCommandWasHandled = .f.
      '(The modified SQL command will be executed by the standard Grid action that executes SQL commands.)

      After all your args modifications you can do e.argsXMLModified = myArgs.XML

      Another simple way (albeit maybe not the best semantically) is to use the CanUpdate / CanInsert events to set the DataSubmitted.field

        Re: MySQL Encryption (Fields in a table)

        This works in the canupdate event of the grid to encrypt the field
        Code:
        datasubmitted.field =a5_encrypt_string(datasubmitted.field,key)
        but I am not sure how to display the decrypted value in the grid.
        I tried this in the onexistingrowrender event of the grid
        Code:
        dim fieldvalue as c
        fieldvalue=a5_decrypt_string(e.rowData.data("field"),key)
        e.rowData.data("field")=fieldvalue
        This causes an error of "Variable type mismatch: attempt to assign e.rowData.data("field") with value of type 'C'
