Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Mobile List - Drill Down Help

    Hi All,

    I have looked but can't seem to find the documentation on this.

    For a mobile UX, you can add a list to a panel card. As demonstrated in numerous videos, the user can click on the record shown in the list and the mobile application will open a new panel card with details of the record. Basically drilling down.

    Does someone know if there is a video that shows you how to link the two records and navigate from a to b? Similar to how when you popup up a grid from another one in the action button options you can simply set the link based on customer id.

    Thanks!

    Scott

    Re: Mobile List - Drill Down Help

    See if this is helpful Scott, using an example from what I do:

    My first list is of Areas, the second is of Animals -- Select the Area and get navigated to the list of animals in the area.

    So, the first list -- on the List Properties tab / OnClick event, I have an ajax callback for the Xbasic function "SetArea"

    Key code from SetArea is:

    Code:
    session.Area_ID = <<some assignment code here>>
    jtxt = ""
    jtxt = jtxt + "{dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANELCARD_2');"
    SetArea = jtxt
    There's more to what's above, but you can see that it's just setting a session variable, then calling the next panelcard.

    PanelCard_2, then, contains an AnimalList. It also includes an argument setting arg_area_id = session.area_id, and the Select statement for the AnimalList on PanelCard_2 is:

    Code:
    SELECT Animal_ID, AREA_ID, Animal_Name AS Name
    FROM Animals
    WHERE AREA_ID = :arg_area_ID
    ORDER BY Name
    Once you've done this (and probably before you've done this) you'll see how simple it is. I'm sure there are other ways to do this too, but this works well for me.

    Is this helpful?

      Just one of the many reasons to love working with Alpha... lotsa ways to get this stuff done.

      Here's another way using the Parent List option from the 2nd List you're creating.

      and here's the video from Selwyn about Cascading Lists

        Hey Guys,

        Thanks for both your suggestions! I tried David's and it worked like a charm. I think Steve's use of an Ajax call back will be very handy for more complex navigation needs in the future.

        Cheers,

        Scott

          Yup, also a good approach David. I've used it, it's nice.

          In the few cases I've done this, I want Panel2 to show a label or some indicator of what was chosen in Panel1, so in my example, I'm already getting and setting session.Area_Name so I can display at the top of my list "Select an Animal in the XYZ Area". For a variety of reasons I also need the session.Area_ID so I went the session variable route.

            Agreed... for simple links use the properties. For more involved stuff (and when isn't it more involved) an ajax callback is the way to go. You can even bind the arguments to session variables.
