    Default "Alpha 5 (Not Responding)"

    Is there a known problem with Alpha 5 hanging up when running a Query and deletion against an Active Link table.

    More specifically, I was trying to delete a record from the Active Link table. I opened the table in the default browse and then used the Query Genie to find the offending record (offending in that it could not be used to update the main table in the database). I wanted to delete the record but found that I could not do a simple delete (CTRL-D) so I marked the record for deletion. When I closed that dialog I was asked if this was I really wanted to do. I said "Yes" and off to la-la land went Alpha 5. In the lower left corner was a message of "99 records". Otherwise, nothing but "(Not Responding)". I waited what a felt was about 90 seconds. Should I have waited longer?

    If the flaw is my process, how do I delete a record in an active link table? I could do it offline but then I need to re-load 31,000 records. I was trying to do it against the uploaded table prior to updating the main table. Seemed to make sense to me.<g>

    Thanks.

    Eric

    Yes, actions executed against an active link table can be slow.

    nothing but "(Not Responding)".
    Normal if you open another window or shift focus away from Alpha. Alpha spends its time doing what you tell it to do, very little time telling you it is doing what you told it to do.

    , how do I delete a record in an active link table?
    Faster to use the Alpha sql commands.

    There can be only one.

    Stan is right. If it is inordinately slow, address the sql table directly using xbasic.

    You could do something like this:
    Code:
    tbl = table.current()
    vItem_Id = tbl.item_id

    Dim SQL as c
    Dim conn as SQL::connection
    Dim args as SQL::Arguments

    args.add("ItemId",vItem_Id)

    SQL = "DELETE FROM items WHERE item_id = :ItemId"

    conn.open("::Name::XXXXXXX")
    flag = conn.execute(SQL, args)
    conn.close()

    vText = conn.callResult.text
    vTitle1 = "Record Deleted"
    vMsg1 =  vText
    ui_msg_box(vTitle1, vMsg1,UI_INFORMATION_SYMBOL)
    It looks like a lot of code just to delete one record, but add it to your code library and next time it's a done deal.

    Oh. You might need to add a parentform.resynch() or something to refresh your form or browse (or similar code).

    If it is a Window's message, it is meaningless - you will get that message from Windows anytime there is any time for an action to complete beyond some certain Windows value.
