Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Can't set repeating section scrollable height to fill container in a panel?

    Hi All.

    I'm trying to get a scrollable repeating section to fill a container in a panel. Setting the repeating section scrollable container height to 100% does not work. Is anyone aware of any other ways of achieving this?

    Cheers

    Can't quite see what you'd like to do. What does it look like when it's not filling the container? Why put a container around it?

    Is is that you'd like to make sure the repeating section does not grow past a certain point? Thus... contained? (Sorry... couldn't help it)

      Hi,

      I was trying to get the repeating section container to adjust to the panel for orientation changes. Setting the scrollable container height to 100% does not work however the following OnOrientationChange JS does the trick:-

      var ph = {dialog.object}.panelHeight('PANNELLAYOUT_1');

      nh=ph-100+'px';

      $('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.CONTAINER_2.CONTENT').style.height =nh;

      David, thanks for your excellent contributions to this Forum, I have learned a lot from your contributions, they have helped me out on numerous occasions.

      Cheers

        Excellent bit of js code, Peter. I love how you can get a the guts of this stuff. Would you mind posting a screen shot of your UX Layout. I see you're using a PanelLayout, but it there another container around your Repeating Section Container?

          Hi David,

          Thanks for your comments however the truth is my JS skill are limited, what I know I picked up while learning A5, I still struggle with basic syntax however I seem to know enough to get the job done. (A little knowledge is a dangerous thing).

          This UX works fine stand alone but I have run into some trouble with orientation change as an embedded component - still working on that.

          I used the container around the repeating section simply to centre it.

            I don't think I'd use a repeating section. They're more for 1 to many relationship displays on web apps.

            I'd use a List control... perfect for mobile... and no worries about scrolling.

              I need to have a list of check boxes that can be individually saved to the table. Can you do that with a list control? If so please explain how. I'd use a grid but that's not ideal for a mobile device.

                Peter,

                This process is a little bit involved but works really well.

                This adds a Checkbox control to a mobile list control in a UX component. When the checkbox control is checked/unchecked an XBasic routine runs which updates a SQL table field.

                  Hi David,

                  That is fantastic, thanks for taking the time to put together such a detailed description for this approach to the problem, I learned a lot. I initially set this up with a grid and found that the checkbox was a bit unresponsive on a mobile device which is why I used my repeating section approach with switch controls. I might stick to that solution so I can keep the switch controls and it updates the table with a single submit rather than for each click event improving performance.

                  Again thanks, your video seemed to get stuck at one point however the audio was fine so I got the point of how you achieved adding the checkbox - a very smart approach. I'll be keeping a link to your video for future reference.

                  Cheers
                  Peter

                      Here's a better video... http://youtu.be/e9ORCjRetAk

                      I'm going to take the other one down.

                      One thing I forgot to show in this video is that orientation change is honoured perfectly.
