Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    New Form Error Msg

Getting this error message when trying to create a new form. Have already uninstalled/reinstalled A5

Does not happen on the Admin side while opening Alpha Sport, however, can't test it on my side
with Alpha Sport because I get this other message.

Guess I will have to redo from scratch on installation

    thanks

    Re: New Form Error Msg

Could not create or open multi...........

This is an error (due to windows permissions) indicating that the person logged in does not have permission to perform creating or modifying files in the indicated directory.
    There can be only one.

I have run into similar when trying to create a new shadow on a client machine - my work around is to make the changes on the full version, update the shadow, and then copy a folder containing the shadow to the server, and then copying the contents of the shadow folder on the server back to the folder on the problem machine's folder containing the shadow

Ok, thanks but don't understand this. Just had my computer updated from XP to W7 and our IT created an Administrator Login and one for me. On my side I can do anything with A5 except create a new form. That's all I can't do, but when I tried to see if the problem existed on A5 Sports I get the other message, but if I log in as Admin I don't get any errors on my program or A5 Sports. I have tried running as Admin but that doesn't work either. I will get with them to see if they can fix my problem.

          Re: New Form Error Msg

Win7 has some real issues with regular users modifying things in the "program Files" folder.

Our workaround was to have a special folder on the local machines for Alpha that had full permission open to all normal users. IT needs to set these permissions on the local machines.

Tom, that worked. Created a separate folder outside of Program Files and reinstalled

I also install Alpha outside program files, but when creating a new shadow on a work station, often have trouble with the roaming folder - and end up having to copy a copy of the shadow to the work station.

                Re: New Form Error Msg

To deploy our updated shadow, we have created a routine using winzip and ground control.

When I create the shadow, I put it into a shared folder on one of our servers. I then use winzip to zip the contents of the folder and then create a self-extracting zip file from that. All of our machines perform a startup routine when they turn on, and part of that is a ground control (acrasoft) routine that checks a text file in the "shadow" folder against a version file on the server. If the server file has a newer date, the routine copies the self-extracting file to the "shadow" folder on the local PC and runs the program. All the files and folders in the "shadow" are replaced.

This process has been working extremely well for us for years.

                  Re: New Form Error Msg

I use a similar process, where all the work stations copy the contents of a folder named shadow on the server to a folder named shadow inside the A5V10 Runtime (or V11 Runtime) by way of a scheduled task that runs at 4:30 AM. That way the user never has to wait for the update to process.

When I make changes, I refresh the shadow folder on the server with the latest version.
