Default Do not upgrade to Windows 8.1 with Alpha Anywhere

Due to issues associated with Internet Explorer 11 which is built into Windows 8.1 a few designer components are either broken or limited in Alpha Anywhere Developer. You cannot edit style sheets and the new absolute positioning feature loses some of the aesthetic features but still functions. There may be other issues that have not been discovered as several of the web component designers rely on the rendering features of Internet Explorer.

I know that Selwyn and the crew are working to resolve this and perhaps even remove he limitation of being tied to IE as each new release seems to bring more headaches for the folks at Alpha.

These issues have been resolved with Anywhere. If you are still having challenges with this I would suggest going to >help>news and updates and choose the link to get the latest release.

My albeit limited experience is when this happens you start using specific controls in another platform. This was a common problem with working with Office Automation. MS would change a library or .dll in an Office product such as Word and the whole thing would break. Its why many developers avoided that, they were spending too much time fixing things that did not work, due to stuff beyond their control.

My guess is that AS developers may need to go back to the drawing board on these issues and that will take some time. It has happened with such regularity to the A5 community the past couple of years it is probably time to have a long term fix.

    Just saying....

John, that's exactly what they've done. The programmers have moved off of using Internet Explorer ActiveX and rewritten both the Absolute Position and Style Builder tools using embedded Chrome. That should eliminate any future issues from Microsoft.
