Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Table is encrypted using a different key ??

I created a new workspace. Then created a *.dbf table and entered some data. Then I turned on security (Tools/Security/Set Workspace Password) from the main control panel. I then encrypted my table.

Then opened up the Web Projects Control Panel. Created my grid. The grid works fine in Working Preview. So next I created an *.a5w page. Placed my component on the *.a5w page. Saved and published everything.

Then I went to the browser window to view the page. I get the following error:
Error opening Grid table/view: Error loading [PathAlias.ADB_Path]\test1.dbf: Table is encrypted using a different key.

    Am I doing something wrong?

I need a table encrypted to protect data.

What is the proper way to encrypt data in the *.dbf tables and then have the web access the data?

    Thanks,
    Dan

    Dan

I get - Table is encrypted using a different key - when I use another .adb (and associated structure files) to open a table that is bound to the original database. If I move the database along with the table the error doesn't occur.

Sounds like you have 2 database containers using the same or similar copies of the table.

    Does that help?

Re: Table is encrypted using a different key ??

      Hi Al,

Wish it did. Created a brand new folder, new workspace and no go. I have attached my zip file so you can see. All I was doing was a test to make sure it would work with A5v12. The password to open the workspace is test

Now it is a sub folder where the main folder is A5v12_Projects. But other than that the folder is new and only has what is in the zip file.

      Thanks,
      Dan

        Dan,

Use the following in the initial a5w page after the login screen:

        default_encryption_key_set(tkey)

where tkey is the encryption key or password

          Hi Gary,

There is no log on screen it is just a simple Read Only gird.

          Al -
Okay I did some testing and found out that if the Alpha Development is running and I turn on the Web Application Server from the development machine it works when I come in from a web page from the out side.

However, if I publish it from the Alpha Development with the Application Server off, relying on the stand alone Web Application Server, then I get the error.

So I am guessing that I will need to leave the Alpha development up with the Web Application Server running inside the Alpha development program.

In some ways it makes sense..... I guess.

So I will just have to move forward in that direction.

          Thanks,
          Dan

It makes sense in that the .adb is open when the development system is running.

Use Gary's suggestion with an A5 block of code in the header of your looksgood.a5w page and see if it works on the app server then.

            ie....

            Code:
            <!doctype html>
            <html>
            <head>

            <%a5
            default_encryption_key_set("test")
'The componentAlias MUST be UNIQUE for each component on the page. It must not have spaces in the name. Keep name as short as possible
            dim componentAlias as c
            componentAlias = "LOOKS1CMP"
            Delete tmpl_LOOKS1CMP
            DIM tmpl_LOOKS1CMP as P

Re: Table is encrypted using a different key ??

I'll try the code a little later.

As to the .adb being open.... it isn't. I just have an empty AA Development up running with the AA Web server running through it. There is not a workspace open at all.

Okay, I used Gary's code. It makes the difference! It now works with just the AA Web Server.

                Thanks!!!!!!
