Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    copying tables with embedded Jpgs

I have a database with a number of .dbf tables with embedded Jpgs. Or so I thought. I need to copy individual .dbf tables to put in another database, but when I do there are no jpgs. I copied the appropriate .dbf, .CDX, .DDD. DDM. Ddx, and .FPT tables, but no jpgs appeared in the new DB.

So my question is where are they stored and how do I transfer them along with the tables? As near as I can tell, I can't export tables and include the Jpgs either to an .xls file.

    Thanks in advance

    Does your table structure use

    image file field
    or
    image file reference field

The former stores the image in the table, using the fpt file.

The latter simply stores the windows path to the image out on the hard drive.

Are the jpgs stored in the tables or are they referenced with an image reference field and stored outside the table perhaps in another directory?

Look at the field type for the jpg.

Edit: (Darn Cone types so fast....)

It's an image file field, not a referenced field. I did it purposefully so that separate jpeg files would not have to be maintained or possibly get lost. But now I've lost the Jpegs deep in the innards of A5.

There are no image file fields. The possibilities are bitmap, jpeg image, png image, and image file reference.
          There can be only one.

Sorry for the nomenclature confusion, they're Jpeg images. I thought Tom was referring to that type field in general when he asked if they were image file fields vs image file reference fields. The question remains, how do i get them to transfer with the table files when I copy them and put them in another database? They're present when the the table is viewed in forms and browses.

Is the new database on the same hard drive?

Gabe, no I want to distribute to remote runtime apps. But I haven't figured out how to do it on the same drive either and get the Jpegs to show up at the destination

                  Try:
In the new database, go to View->settings->Directories and make sure you are pointing to the right files, or you might have to copy these files.
                  Or
Somebody asked a related question a while back..don't remember exactly what. At any rate, in response to that thread, I wrote a function that will copy images from one database to another. A little search might flush it out. Don't know if it will help in your situation though, i.e. remote apps, but it might with some modifications.

Thanks Gabe and all, I finally figured it out. It's so simple that I don't know what I was doing wrong before. After copying the files to the destination, all I had to do was Right click on the Tables/set tool bar and click on Add Table/set and select the transferred .Dbf. Apparently, before I only thought I was replacing the old table sans Jpegs with the new table with Jpegs. Thanks again to all.

If I'm reading this correctly, you had a directory/file pointing issue...

It's very easy to see if you have the control panel in detail view mode.

There should also be a question mark icon for the table/set if that pointer doesn't find the files needed.

But in your case, you had both sets of files.

Try the detail view. You'll like it.
