Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Signature Image is showing a block box on PDF

I've been trying to solve this one all day. No luck!

I have a SignatureCapture on a UX component, works fine the signature is stored on SQL in a image field. I inserted an html field on my report, I have this code {a5_HTML_extended_image_field_format("Sig_Png","")} in the body section. When I preview the report the signature displays correctly. If I publish and then run from the desktop or mobile device (report is in pdf type) the signature image just shows a block box.

Anyone run into this problem. I'M STUCK!

    Hi,

Have you tried the steps listed in this message? I was able to show image fields on a PDF from an SQL database...

Yup, I found that post earlier today and tried it. No luck. I also tried changing the field type in SQL and still no go. It seems to me that the alpha print server is not rendering the image. If you run a report in the native format it works just fine.

What field type are you using in sql to store the image?

      Thanks

Re: Signature Image is showing a block box on PDF

I haven't found the solution yet, but I am sure that the amyuni converter used by A5 is the problem. I installed another PDF converter pdf995 which I use in my access applications to convert reports to pdf for emailing. So then I printed the report in native format, then chose print from the file menu and selected pdf995 as the printer. Guess what? the pdf printed with the signature instead of a black box. I think the people over at Alpha need to resolve this issue ASAP. After all what good is signature capture if you can't use it in a pdf to email the customer a receipt or copy of the document they just signed! That is what my client wants, and I need to deliver it!!!

          Hi Lou,

If you are able to duplicate this issue with small sample project or with the steps necessary to duplicate the issue, then submit a bug report to Alpha and I am sure they will check it out and either post a solution or a fix in the next available pre-release version.

            Hi Edhy,

Sounds like a good idea. Where do I submit the bug report?

              Hi Lou,

              Sorry, forgot to say how
Open the Alpha program and from the "Help" menu select "Send a Bug Report", follow the instructions that will be shown and send the bug report.

Keep in mind that to make this process as fast as possible, you must provide clear instructions on how to duplicate your issue, provide as much detail as possible in the same way you would expect from your users (even thought that almost never happen to me ) so this way the A5 team can reproduce your issue and fix it or suggest a fix.

                  Edhy,

Thanks for the info. I just spend all my time on web components and never really paid attention to the drop down choices on the help menu.

                    UPDATE:

Finally solved this issue, thanks to Selwyn who convinced me that it was not a bug. I removed the HTML object from my report and inserted a Text object to display the signature. I also had to override the sql data type in the query wizard from bitmap to png. But that was the least of my problems, it turns out that if you are using RDP as I do to connect to your application server, your report will not convert to pdf correctly so the signature image will not display. I found this out only because I was about to wipe out the drive on the server and start over, but I decided to give it one last try and behold! It worked, but only from the console, no RDP. So now I do my stuff, disconnect the RDP and test the app. All is good, report renders on desktop pdf and tablet pdf with signature as it should. I'm going to dig deeper and find out why this happens when using RDP. When I do I will post it here.

Did you ever figure this out? I had a PDF that was showing the signature just fine. I changed the report to use the report project and now it doesn't display. It works in the IDE and on the local host. It doesn't work on my server. I'm hoping you can share your experience
