Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Pre-select list item based on query string variable / show detail

    I have a standard list/detail component using panel navigators based off of the tutorial video. Clicking an item in the list populates the details and then switches to the details panel.

    I would like to be able to pre-select an item in the list (populating the details and switching to the details panel) if there is a variable present in the query string.

    I tried doing this a number of ways, to no avail: using JQuery to find and click the element in the list, calling populateControlsFromTable and passing the ID, etc. I looked through the tutorials, searched the Alphapedia wiki, but didn't really find any recommended method for what I'm trying to do.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Tyler

    So you want to jump directly to a populated detail panel?

    Can you show an example of your query string with a variable present?

      Sure, the query string is: http://<SiteUrl>/Contacts.a5w?Id={985366C0-65FD-4638-ABA1-670D38DFCC87}

      In server-side events, in the onDialogExecute event I set a variable:
      dim contactId as C
      on error resume next
      contactId = Request.Variables.Id
      on error goto 0

      And I execute a server side action to populate the dialog:
      ExecuteServerSideAction("Populate Dialog from Tables::PopulateDetailsFromIdPassedInQueryString")

      Capture.PNG

      If I debug, I can see that the value is getting set in the XBasic function:

      dim primaryKeyValue as c = "" + eval("contactId")

      and further down:
      e.primaryKey[i] = work(primaryKeyValue,i,"|||")

      is set to the same value, but when the call to:
      a5DialogHelper._populateControlsFromTable(tmpl,e,rtc,100,opx,null_value());

      is made (which I can't step into) it doesn't work.

      I've actually turned on Sql profilining, and I can see that the variable passed into SQL is null:
      declare @p1 int
      set @p1=2
      exec sp_prepexec @p1 output,N'@P1 nvarchar(2)',N'SELECT ID, PropertyName, ContactId, ID AS [__primaryKey] FROM ContactProperties WHERE ContactId = @P1 ORDER BY PropertyName',N''
      select @p1

      If I run profiler when selecting an item from the list (which uses action javascript to set the details from the selected list item) I see that the variable is being passed:
      declare @p1 int
      set @p1=2
      exec sp_prepexec @p1 output,N'@P1 nvarchar(78)',N'SELECT ID, PropertyName, ContactId, ID AS [__primaryKey] FROM ContactProperties WHERE ContactId = @P1 ORDER BY PropertyName',N'{BC52B99E-71D9-4C8B-B4B6-D6642EA5C0A4}'
      select @p1

      Thanks,

      Tyler

        I posted a lengthy reply on several days ago, and received a response that it had to be approved before it would be publicly available...

          I figured this out.
          Originating page / List click():
          var contactId = {dialog.object}.getValue('list::LinkedContacts::ContactId');
          window.location.href = 'Contacts.a5w?Id='+contactId;
          Target page (List/Detail) - Clientside event OnInitializeComplete:
          Get the contact Id from the query string (code not included for brevity.)
          {dialog.Object}.populateControlsFromTable(contactId, true);
          {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('CONTACTDETAILSCARD',true);

            Sounds good... so you're using the Request object?
